This black and white photograph of Sister Pat McPherson was taken at the 1st International Congress on Domiciliary Nursing held in Melbourne. The congress was hosted by the Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) and ran from the 1st - 8th of February 1970. Following this Congress, Sister Patricia McPherson was employed by RDNS from 1970 - 2003, mainly in the area of Administration.Sister Patricia McPherson, State Registered Nurse, Midwife, and Infant Welfare trained nurse, B.A. was awarded an M.B.E. for her community health work among the Aboriginal communities during the time she worked as a Sister for the Australian Inland Mission (AIM). This was just prior to her joining Royal District Nursing Service. Part of a photo album (Cat.No. 01588), with a photo of Donovan Joynt and Queen Elizabeth II reading from a pamphlet he is holding. Another copy of this photo is marked as 17 March 1977, it is believed to when the Queen visited Royal Park. It is unknown who the veteran on the right is. Queen Elizabeth visited Melbourne as part of her Silver Jubilee tour of Australia and attended a children's rally in Royal Park wearing this outfit. A crowd of 18,000 people greeted her. Footage of the visit can be seen in National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NSFA-ID 44325). From 1928 until the 1980s, Melbourne Legacy ran an excellent exercise program for its widows. Classes were held weekly at Legacy House and there was often a waiting list for the water classes, which had both swimming instruction and water exercises. Some of the class members were in their 90s, many just learning to swim. A photo from 1969 of three girls dressed in Christmas costumes. It was taken to showcase the annual demonstration. A newspaper article from 16 October 1969 shows the girls were to perform as skaters in the production of "The Seasons" in the annual demonstration. Their names are Cathy Richardson, 9 of Avondale Heights, Karen Mills, 11 of West Footscray, and Thelma Richardson, 10 from Avondale Heights. A photo of girls in similar costumes posing with a snowman appears in a newspaper clipping at 01824 from 1959 which shows that Legacy reused the elaborate costumes that were produced for the demonstrations. This photo provides an example of the beautiful costumes worn by Junior Legacy girls for Legacy's Annual Demonstrations at the Melbourne Town Hall.
