Toddler in photograph appears to be Ivy Child. Ivy May Child (1910 – 1989) was the daughter of Arthur Edward (Ted) Child (1878 – 1964) and Ethel May Madden (1888 – 1970). Ted Child was the son of Matthew Francis Child (1839 – 1933) and Martha Jeeves (1857 – 1926). He was the grandson of one of the early pioneers Francis Child. Ivy grew up on the family property on Childs Road and took many photographs. A brown decorated hardcover book for young children titled Prattles, with black outlines of flowers and columns surrounding a coloured illustration of three girls sewing. The broken spine has dirty cream tape attached. The frontispiece is a coloured illustration of a young girl playing with a baby in its cradle near a fireplace with the heading 'The little Mother'. The title page has 'Prattles' printed at the top with two toddler girls chiding each other, surrounded by a black circle. The publisher details are listed at the bottom of the page. This photograph shows one of the aspects of nursing care given by Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), Sisters who worked in the community. The Sister attending had received instructions for care of this toddler's wound from a Doctor. The Sister is using a dressing tray which was sterilized at the RDNS centre. At the time of this photograph many hospitals provided wound dressings for their patients when they returned home. If not attached to a hospital, the family bought their own dressings, though the Sister carried spare dressings in their cases if needed at the time of their visit. The Trained nurses of the Melbourne District Nursing Society (MDNS), from its inception in 1885, provided wound care to their patients, who ranged in age from the very young to the elderly. As research developed better products and dressing materials the methods and medication applied to wounds changed. MDNS received Royal patronage in 1966 and as Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), the Education department developed programs, such as Wound Care Programs, to provide their Trained nurses (Sisters)) with methods of best quality care. The Sisters liaised with the patient’s Doctors and hospitals to provide information on the progress of patient’s wounds and to receive any change of wound care from the Doctors. RDNS introduced Wound Care Specialists who carried out assessments and provided advice and support to the District Sisters working in the field. A photo of celebrations at Legacy House for a widow's 100th birthday. The event was reported in the 30 November issue of The Answer. 'Legacy widow Hilma enjoyed her 100th birthday recently with members of her family. In the photographs Hilma is joined by her grand-daughter Debbie and one of her great grand-children, Guy.'A record of a widow reaching 100 years of age and Legacy marking the occasion with an event at Legacy House. Many events and lunches were held at Legacy house for widows to attend. They provided a social outlet and chance to get together with other widows. Also widows could drop into Legacy House during office hours whenever they were in the city for a cup of tea. Mary Selina Inglefinger was born in 1856 in Kings Plain, NSW and was the eldest daughter of Joseph Inglefinger and his wife Maria Viktoria Bertel (Barthl), both of whom were born in Germany; they applied to come to Australia in 1854. They had 10 children, the first 8 born in Kings Plain. In 1879, Joseph Inglefinger bought James Staig's farm in Boundary (Warrigal) Road, near the corner of Bona Vista Avenue, Surrey Hills. The 1903 and 1905 electoral rolls list them in Boundary Road. In 1875 Mary married Charles Simpson, stepson of James Staig in Scots Church, Melbourne. They had 3 boys and 3 girls.
