Food, clothing and other products were in short supply in Australia during World War II. The first controls over the production and distribution of products were introduced in 1940, partly due to disruption of shipping. In 1942, after Japan entered the War, comprehensive rationing was introduced to manage shortages and control civilian consumption. The first product to be rationed was clothing on 12 June 1942. Each adult was allowed 112 clothing coupons per year. Tea rationing was introduced the following month, followed by sugar, butter and then meat. After the War, rationing was gradually phased out. Clothing rationing was abolished on 24 June1948. The last rationed product was tea, which ended in July 1950.A soft green/brown rectangular leather wallet with metal clasp. This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages. In 1888, Hugh Moore, a gentleman, subdivided his land in Glen Huntly Road, north side between Selwyn Street and St Georges Road into 27 lots, with a right of way separating them from his property "Glenmoore". The subdivision was known as the "Glenmoore Estate". Purchases of land included local builders Corkill, French and Pugh. Moore retained five lots and W.W. Jamieson bought lots 11 to 14. "Moore' s Buildings are locally important for their association with the early Elsternwick land owner, Hugh Moore, whose home, "Glenmoore", at 1 St.Georges Road (qv) survives. James Redmond Gilbert (sr) was born in 1837 at Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He married Ellen Spouse. He , James Gilbert died on 26 July 1900 at Melbourne, and is buried at Boroondara Cemetery (Kew). J.R Gilbert lived at Running Creek (later Havilah) for some time, and during that time was employed in one of the bigger mines in the district. This is the first in a series of Catalogue No’s relating to the erection of a smaller scale replica of the Cenotaph in Whitehall London. All other Cat No's will refer to this Cat No 8295.14. These items were held by the Bendigo Archive Centre and transferred to the Bendigo Military Museum in December 2023. Col Sir George Lansell, WW1 Veteran, President of the Bendigo RSL Sub Branch conceived the idea to erect in a central location a cenotaph to perpetuate the memory of Australian Servicemen who had given their lives in Battle. With the assistance of the then Agent General for Victoria in London the Hon Sir John Lienhop Sir George approached Lady Emily Lutyens - trustee in her late Husbands estate, Sir Edwin Lutyens who designed the cenotaph for permission to erect a monument on similar lines in Bendigo.
