Lamp was used at the Mount Helen railway station on the Ballarat to Buninyong railway line in the early 1900s. The Mount Helen station was unmanned, with passengers flagging down the train by lighting the lamp.This lamp is one of the few remaining relics of activity on the Ballarat to Buninyong railway line.Metal fabricated lamp with cast iron feet and top decoration. The Todd family lived in this house in the early 1900s. The house was next door to the butcher's shop which was run by members of the Todd family at the time. Stella Todd is the small child on the right of the photograph, whose hand is being held by her older sister (who is possibly Millie Todd). It is believed this house later burned down and was replaced by the house which currently occupies the site (65 Sussex Street).Black and white copy of original photograph which shows a weatherboard house with a front verandah and a picket fence. Marianne Hardridge married James Maggs and had 11 children. They began orcharding on Wonga Road when there was nothing but bush. Over the years it became one of the largest orchards, and they were also one of the largest families in the district. As well as helping on the land Marianne took up nursing and as Nurse Maggs brought over 500 children into the world in the Ringwood area. This hanging frame was contained in the steamer chest which belonged to Dr. Murphy (1905 - 1981) who was the first doctor of Emerald. It is believed to have belonged to his mother, Mary Murphy. Dr. Murphy's father, Sir Stephen James Murphy, was in the Indian Civil Service (1898 - 1935) serving in various positions including as the Justice of the High Court of Bombay. The chest appears to date from the early 1900s.This item is significant as it belonged to Dr. Murphy who was an esteemed Emerald GP and local person.Wooden hanging frame. Part of the steamer chest. These photographs were taken just before structural modifications and connecting overhead walkways were commenced in 1978.1: Art School opened in 1915 on the site of the original SMB building.It was converted from the abandoned court house. The theodolite is used in surveying and measures vertical and horizontal angles. Placed on a tripod, it is used to find angles in road building, tunnel alignment and other civil-engineering work. The theodolite was used at Ballarat School of Mines in the surveying course. It is possible that this instrument was imported by Flavelle Bros & Co having been made to their order by a European instrument makerTheodolite (without a matching tripod) with four leveling screws at the base.
