Some writing on the rear identifies the subject. 2/A typewritten letter, (1 page) dated 1946 (no date more specific than that specified), from the Chairman & Honorary Treasurer of the Caulfield Central RSL Appeal Committee (name unspecified) to the Mayor of Caulfield (name also unspecified), imploring the latter for a donation of $20,000 dollars for purposes of constructing a Memorial Hall to eulogize servicemen killed during WWII. George ArundelBagpipe player George Arundel thinks there is something special about a man with a beard dressing up in a skirt and playing the pipes. "It's the theatrics of it all that I love", Mr Arundel, a member of the Ringwood Highland Pip[e Band, said. Mr Arundel began playing the bagpipesas a boy growing up in Glasgow in 1966, and has been playing them ever since.

St Peter's Church was established in 1861 in the school house. In 1864 the question of building a church was seriously discussed. A foundation stone for the church was laid on 16 November 1864 by Bendan S. Hassell. The architect was Charles Davenport Cuthbert; the trustees were Somerville Learmonth, W.P. Whitcombe, Robert Wynne and J.B. McQuie. The church building committee consisted of Horace walker, J.S. Carver, John M. Fisher, Robert Williams, Thomas Gibson, John E. Hodgson and W. Lindisay Richardson. The foundation stone of the Soldier's Chapel was laid on 06 April 1917. The beautiful stained glass in the chapel was donated by Mrs W. Tunbridge and H.C. Curwen-Walker, in memory of their sons who were killed during World War One. In 1929 a new three manual organ by London's Hill, Norman and Beard was installed. It was the first in Ballarat with electro-pneumatic action.White soft covered booklet outlining the first 100 years of St Peter's Anglican Church, Ballarat. The book includes information on each of the ministers until 1961, a programme of the Centenary Celebrations, and black and white photographs of the exterior and interior of the church. The Wesleyan Church, Denham Street in Lower Hawthorn, as the area was then called, was opened on 2 May 1886. The building was designed by Geelong architect William Henry Cleverdon and was built of brick in the Gothic style. Its dimensions were 55 x 33 ft and the façade incorporated a rose window and spire 50 ft high. A wooden vestry was placed to the rear. The building and the organ were seriously damaged by fire on 1 April 1970, started by a painter's blowtorch. The church was not rebuilt. The organ was built in 1900 by E. Cornwall Cook, of Barrington Place, Burwood Road, Hawthorn. It was opened on 8 August 1901 by George Peake. The Swell strings may have been added (or substituted for earlier material) by Frederick Taylor, whose workshop was nearby in Burwood Road. At some stage the colourfully decorated façade pipes were repainted in a gold finish. Portrait of Jean Pierre Trouette who planted vines at St Peters Great Western 1862. Jean Pierre Trouette, was a Frenchman who had difficulty obtaining a block of land at Great Western about 1862. He was permitted to purchase a small allotment on the Concongella Creek in 1863. In 1863 Jean Pierre and Mr. Blampied began planting grape vines. The winery that Trouette and Blampied established was called St Peters. Jean Pierre was Shire President in 1876. E. John Lundy-Clarke grew up in the Kalorama/Mt Dandenong area and later in life (1972-74) began to write a comprehensive history of the district working from an original settlement map in an effort to cover all areas. Edward Joseph Price took out Lot 1, Section 1 of the Village Settlement and became the first settler, moving his family up into a slab hut on his selection in 1896. Edward Joseph had two sons (Charles Joseph and Edward John) and a daughter (Kathleen Nathalie Caroline). Edward Joseph Price is holding his grandson Teddie, son of Edward John Price. Joseph was the first settler in the Village Settlement choosing LOT 1, part of which is still family property (1974). He worked for the surveyors who were marking out the blocks, and disregarded their advice as to which had the best soil, and so doing he obtained the best commercially. He died in 1943 leaving two sons & daughter. Edward John born 1899 died 1974. Charles born 1892 died 1958. Kathleen born 1895 died 1954.
