A moulded brown cardboard mount measures 24.7 X 20.00. On the reverse side is written in pencil, 'Building Church hall/ at/ Belgrave/ Saturday 11th Dec 1920.' There is a stamped business name which reads 'Watson's/ photos/ Belgrave.' The Hall was built by largely volunteer labour as the Austral Hall, financed largely by Harry Luscombe's dances and functions. The land was donated by the Buckley Family. On the reverse side is written in pencil, 'Building Church hall/ at/ Belgrave/ Saturday 11th Dec 1920.' There is a stamped business name which reads 'Watson's/ photos/ Belgrave.'

This was a special run for rail enthusiasts and marked the official opening of the first train from Ferntree Gully to Belgrave after the line from Upper Ferntree Gully was converted to broad gauge and electrified.A black and white photograph of the rear of a train with passengers alighting at Surrey Hills station. The Methodist Order of Knights was the official youth organisation of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It originated in Hurstville, NSW, on the 4th October 1914 by the then Mr and later Rev Alex Bray. Alex Bray was a Sunday School teacher and spoke to his class of the Knights of the Round Table. In 1917 the Order of Knights was officially recognised by the Sunday School Dept of the NSW Methodist Conference. Courts spread thoroughout Australia. In 1927 the High Court of NSW called for designs for a badge and in 1929 the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia recognised the Order as an approved Organisation. In 1938 the Senior Section was organised into Degrees of Sincerity, Service and Sacrifice; the Junior Section into Pages' Degree with advancement to Esquire. In 1954 the Junior Section was reorganised into two groups: Pages 8 to 11 years and Esquires 12 to 15 years. The Knight's Motto: "Live Pure, Speak True, Right Wrong, Follow Christ the King, else wherefore born?" Courts of the Order: General Conference Department of the Christian Education - General Court - Provincial High Court - District Court - Local Court - Senior Court - Intermediate Court - Junior Court . Regalia: All members of the Intermediate and Senior Courts wore regalia consisting of a cloth shield superimposed by a cross of light and dark blue ribbons, and supported by a cloth collar. Belgrave railway station is the terminus of the electrified line from Melbourne in Victoria, Australia, serving the eastern Melbourne suburb of Belgrave. Opened as Monbulk on 18 December 1900, it was renamed Belgrave on 21 November 1904. It was upgraded to a Premium station on 2 July 1996. The station was originally on the Upper Ferntree Gully – Gembrook narrow gauge line. It, along with the rest of the line, officially closed on 30 April 1954. However it saw further use between 1955 and early 1958, when trains were operated by the Puffing Billy Preservation Society in co-operation with the Victorian Railways. The station area re-opened on 19 February 1962 when the line as far as Belgrave was converted to broad gauge and used electric traction as part of the suburban network.[1] It has one island platform with two faces. George W A'Vard (1890-1966) was a long-time resident of the area, known for his bullock team. That team may be off-camera in this photograph, preparing to pull the wagon of logs pictured. His business was operational by 1913, but it is unclear precisely when this photo was taken. The photo is said to have been taken at the Red Mill, which is on 62 Monbulk Road, Belgrave and opened in 1925 as the Belgrave Kiosk and Dance Palais. This is a photograph of a notable Emerald resident, capturing early 20th century transportation methods.This item is a printed black and white photograph on modern photo paper.
