The Miser’s purse originated late in the eighteenth century and was variously called misers, hookers, almoners (or aumonières), and wallets, or long, stocking, ring, and string purses. The shape of the miser’s purse originated from the medieval practice of carrying coins in the toe of a stocking. A large version—as much as a couple of feet long and perhaps used largely by men during the eighteenth century—gradually became smaller and more refined. The miser’s purse grew in popularity on the continent and in England during the nineteenth century. During the second half of the century, it became one of the most common purses that Victorians carried. Used by both women and men, the typical nineteenth-century miser’s purse was a long tube made of “purse” or “netting” silk, often crocheted, netted, or knitted, with or without beads. Narrow in the middle and closed at both ends, miser’s purses ranged in the course of their history from 4 to 36 inches (10.2 to 91.4 cm) long. During the Victorian era, many miser’s purses were from 8 to 10 inches (20.3 to 25.4 cm) long. Safety helmets were worn during construction work on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme and during its operation. Each group of workers had a different coloured helmet to identify their role.A pale green fibre glass oval shaped helmet with a small rim and with hard white plastic 'netting' inside - shaped with 6 pieces coming towards the outside from an oval in the centre. These are attached with screws. Around the circumference of the head is a plastic adjustable piece covered by soft plastic in the front. This ship model of the Cutty Sark was hand-built in the 1980s from a model kit produced by Billings, Denmark. It was on display in the Olde Maritime Motor Inn in Warrnambool until it was refurbished around 2015. The Cutty Sark was a famous clipper ship, launched in 1869 for the tea trade from China to London. The ship was designed for speed, with the ambition to be the fastest ship. In the late 1800s, it competed in the tea clipper races. It was eventually sold to a Portuguese company, Ferreria, and took on the company's name. It was sold again and renamed Maria do Amparo. Finally, the ship's name was returned to the original 'Cutty Sark' when it was purchased by Captain Dowman for use as a cadet training ship. The ship continued trading and in 1922 it became the last operating clipper ship in the world. The ship is now a museum, preserved in a dry dock at Greenwich, England, as part of the British National Historic Fleet. About Barry Williams: - The maker, Barry Williams, worked for the Australian Shipping Line, Huddart Packard Ltd., until it closed down in 1960. Williams then worked for Shaw Savill & Albion Co. Ltd., a substantial British passenger and liner company. and subsequently Furness Withy Ltd. (SS&A's parent company). In the late 1970s Williams and two friends established their own ship chartering company in Melbourne, the Harwood Shipping Co. During the early 1970s Williams and his wife lived in London, near Greenwich, and often walked along the river where the Cutty Sark Maritime Museum is located. The fascination of the Cutty Sark led Williams to build model ships of the same era. At one stage Williams lost the rigging plan for the Cutty Sark but one of his partners, on a visit to London, photographed the Cutty Sark on the river, and Williams used these to complete the rigging on the model. Williams found the making of the model a very demanding but also pleasurable exercise.The model is significant for showing a visual representation of one of the most famous tea clippers, the vessel Cutty Sark. The three-masted ship was built for speed and traded tea between England and China. In 1922 the Cutty Sark became the last operating tea clipper in the world. Part 1: is a hard and flat rubber object with netting around it, attached to this is a tube made out of the same material. Part 2: looks like it would attach to the tube and is solid. Part 3: could be unrelated but is a black Y shaped item that seems like it could attach to the tube. On the netted part of the rubber "8" and "Ery." are stamped or written onto the item.

The house at "Fintry" Lake Bolac, the home of Lewis Whiteway and Victoria May Wills and family and then of Lewis Wills and his wife Amy and their family. The house was constructed in 1906, the materials having been brought up from Geelong by ox-drawn dray. This shawl was made in Ireland by Caroline Richardson (nee Bewley) before 1848, when the family moved to New York because of the prevailing Chartist views. They were Quakers and Richard Richardson (Caroline's husband) was editor of a paper. Their daughter Caroline was the mother of Dr. Robert Louis McAdam, who is buried in the Melbourne Cemetery.
