It was a bluestone building with a slate roof and an extra weatherboard classroom was built later. The school was built at the end of School Lane near Deep Creek. A swing Bridge was built across the creek to give pupils quicker access to school. The school functioned until December 1996 when it closed and the property was sold and became a private residence.Bulla State School No.46 was one of the earliest government school to be established in the district and functioned in the original building for 126 years until it was closed. Bulla State School No. 46...The school in the photograph is Bulla State School No. 46 and was originally known as the Government -funded Bulla Common School, built 1870 - 1871. ...The school in the photograph is Bulla State School No. 46 and was originally known as the Government -funded Bulla Common School, built 1870 - 1871. ...The school in the photograph is Bulla State School No. 46 and was originally known as the Government -funded Bulla Common School, built 1870 - 1871. With the passing of the Education Act in Victoria in 1873 it became known as Bulla State School No. 46. The original building comprised of a rectangular shaped bluestone building with a 3 roomed residence attached. As school enrolments began to increase in the district, a weatherboard classroom was added in 1881 and later extended in 1927 adjacent to the original building with a covered walkway between the two buildings. The modern portable classroom was added in the 1960s. Bulla Primary School closed in 1996 after much local controversy. The property is now privately owned. The programs organised at the camp were outdoor education and environmental studies for Grade 5 and 6 children attending Victorian Primary Schools. Prior to 1959, the site was initially used as an RAAF training camp and later became a migrant camp during the immediate 1940s post-war immigration. Children attending the Somerset Camp participated in a variety of outdoor activities in the natural environment that they could not experience at school. Somers Camp Bulla State School No. 46 ...The four men were teachers who were supervising the Grade 5 and 6 children from Bulla Primary School. The children were attending the Somerset Camp in July 1961. The younger man wearing glasses is Mr. Clifford, who was the head teacher at Bulla Primary School in 1961. Over the years a teacher's residence and another larger weatherboard classroom were added to the original bluestone building. The school functioned for over 100 years from the late 1870s until 2006 when it was closed and is now a private house.The Bulla State School was one of the oldest schools in the district and served the children from surrounding areas.
