Historical information
The four men were teachers who were supervising the Grade 5 and 6 children from Bulla Primary School. The children were attending the Somerset Camp in July 1961. The younger man wearing glasses is Mr. Clifford, who was the head teacher at Bulla Primary School in 1961. Somers Camp became a camp for school children in 1959 and was run by the Education Department. The programs organised at the camp were outdoor education and environmental studies for Grade 5 and 6 children attending Victorian Primary Schools. Prior to 1959, the site was initially used as an RAAF training camp and later became a migrant camp during the immediate 1940s post-war immigration.
Significance
Children attending the Somerset Camp participated in a variety of outdoor activities in the natural environment that they could not experience at school.
