The Yarra Track is the former name of the gold fields road from Healesville to the Woods Point and Jordan Goldfields, in Victoria, Australia. A direct route via the Yarra River and the Great Divide was discovered by Reick in September 1862 and became known as the Yarra Track. Early in 1863, the Victorian Government decided to construct a 193-kilometre (120 mile) road along the route. Its original width varied between 4 and 6 metres (12 and 20 feet), and was designed to accommodate horse-drawn vehicles. The Track involved the climbing of the Black Spur, descent into the Acheron Valley, and then through Marysville to the Cumberland where it followed the existing route.willaim cavanagh farrell, marysville, victoria, wood's point, yarra track, black spur, steavenson's creek, steavenson river, george theodore rieck -

... ...Sharon Cavanagh...Albans The Advocate Sharon Cavanagh ...This local milk bar & mixed business was the local SWING Soft Drinks distributor. SWING was a local Australian soft‑drink company, likely family‑run, producing Lemonade, Cola, Orange, Portello, Creamy soda and other classic flavours of the era. SWING operated during the peak era of small bottlers (1950s–1970s), when nearly every town had its own soft‑drink works. These small manufacturers disappeared during the industry collapse of the 1980's and 1990's, when Coca‑Cola, Pepsi, and Schweppes bought out or out‑competed most independents. This photographs captures the demand for the local SWING soft drinks in the early 1990's.5663 - Main Rd East Cnr McArthur St Shops 1991 (Sun Adv 485) Photo 01.JPGmain road east, mcarthur street, st. albans, swing -

... Sharon Cavanagh...Albion Explosive Factory Ballarat Road Deer park ICI Chimney Blown Up Explosive Factory Deer Park Digital scans of black and white negatives Photograph - Albion Explosive Factory Northern RDX Acid Plant Chimney Demolition 1990 Photographs Sharon Cavanagh ...The Albion Explosives Factory began as Commonwealth Defence Explosives Annexe No. 5, constructed rapidly in 1939–1940 as part of Australia’s WWII munitions expansion. It was built adjacent to the long‑established Nobel / ICI explosives works at Deer Park and produced TNT, nitroglycerine, cordite, RDX, DNT, and related explosive compounds. This plant manufactured Research Department Explosive (RDX), a nitrogen‑rich high explosive used in military munitions, which is far more powerful than TNT, yet relatively stable to store and transport. It is not a consumer or industrial product and sits firmly in the defence materials category. This series of time elapsed photographs records the demolition of the Northern RDX Acid Plant chimney by controlled demolition by explosive which safely brought the chimney down by making it to fall to one side. The history of the Albion Explosive Factory is tightly connected to the evolution of the Deer Park explosives precinct and the wider ICI industrial township.Chimney Blown Up Explosive Factory Deer Parkalbion explosive factory, ballarat road, deer park, ici -

McKay Gates. The gates were the ceremonial and security entrance to one of the most important industrial sites in Melbourne’s west, the Sunshine Harvester Factory. They were not just gates; they were the symbolic front door to the Sunshine Harvester Works Factory and carried Sunshine’s industrial identity into the second half of the 20th century. The gates were made by the factory's own blacksmith, Charlie Pippett, a Glasgow‑born blacksmith who migrated to Australia in 1912 and worked at the Harvester Works until 1947.The Massey Ferguson gates are historically significant because they represent Sunshine’s transition from Harvester Works to global tractor manufacturing, mid‑century industrial architecture, the daily rhythm of factory life, the identity of a working‑class suburb and the final chapter of Sunshine’s manufacturing golden age. Today, they are one of Sunshine’s most important landmarks.Don McKay & Peter Westmore At Old Massey Ferguson Factorydon mckay, peter westmore, massey ferguson, devonshire road, sunshine, h.v. mckays, h.v. mays massey harris, charlie pippett -
