It was donated to the Wodonga Historical Society by Fred Rochow, a railwayman who spent many years based in Wodonga. He joined the Victorian Railways on 17th June l947 and retired in 1988. For some time, he was a member of the Australian Federated Union of Locomotive Enginemen and served a term as a member of the Trades Hall Council. He had an extensive knowledge of the struggles that took place to achieve better conditions for railway workers. Fred worked for many years as a fireman and then worked his way up the ranks to driver, experiencing many changes from the days of steam locomotives through to diesel trains, locomotives and even the modern XPT train. He worked throughout Victoria at different stages of his career, with his final working years focused on the northeast of Victoria and the Albury to Melbourne line. After his retirement, Fred continued to share his love of steam miniature trains with the community. This collection has local and statewide significance as it captures images of trains, locomotives and personnel who operated the railway services in Wodonga and throughout Northeast Victoria. Peta Clancy is a descendent of the Bangerang people from South-Eastern Australia. ...Peta Clancy...Undercurrent Photograph Photograph Peta Clancy ...Peta Clancy is a descendent of the Bangerang people from South-Eastern Australia. She explores hidden histories of colonisation in Australia. Through manipulating photographic prints, she reconstructs these hidden histories in a contemporary setting. In 2018, Clancy was awarded the inaugural Fostering Koorie Art and Culture grant from the Koorie Heritage Trust. The grant enabled her to collaborate with the Dja Dja Wurrung community to create a body of work investigating massacre sites on Dja Dja Wurrung country. The exhibition Undercurrent at the Koorie Heritage Trust focussed on a massacre site submerged under water. Clancy says of the exhibition and this work: ‘I explored this site as a metaphor for the hidden history of many massacres throughout Australia and the denial of this aspect of our history and the trauma these sites evoke’. -

... ...Bernard Clancy...Best we forget Book Indra Publishing Bernard Clancy ...Donkey Simpson, a typically naive young Australian, thrust into uniform by his country, sets out on the adventure of a lifetime -- or so he thinks. But Vietnam is not what he expected. It's a horror story. It's a story over which he has no control, at first a 'typical Army stuff-up' which wrenches him this way and that, like a puppet soldier on a string, and then something far more dangerous and sinister threatens to destroy him -- but who's pulling the strings? This is the story of Simpson and his mates, caught in a war between powerful ideologies which none of them understood. They walk the fine line of sanity, swinging wildly between love and hate, pathos and humour, patriotism and treason, life and pointless death. Donkey Simpson's story is centred around the Public Relations Office of the Australian contingent, and a spy in the nearby Intelligence Office -- a spy of unclear loyalties, working for the South Vietnamese allies, working for the enemy, or working only for survival? The novel has its ugly aspects -- most soldiers' lack of respect for the Vietnamese, whether ally or enemy, the callous disregard for human life, and the treachery practised on both sides. ... Peta Clancy...butterflies 'Shadowy Land 8 & 9' Photograph Peta Clancy ...The series Shadowy Land explores soil from cultural perspectives and in relation to the body. Shot on large format film and lit by drawing with light during long exposure times, the photographs take as their subject the status of threatened species, themes of memory, mourning, loss and the Australian landscape. Artist Bio Dr Peta Clancy is a descendent of the Bangerang people from south-eastern Australia. Through her photographic work, she explores the hidden histories of colonisation and events that threatened the survival of her ancestors. Clancy frequently layers, re-photographs and manually manipulates photographic prints to reconstruct and lay bare these otherwise obscured histories in a contemporary setting. Since the early 2000s, Clancy has exhibited extensively in solo and group settings in Australia and internationally. In 2017 she was curatorial advisor for Science Gallery Melbourne’s season Blood, and in 2018 she was awarded the 2018 Fostering Koorie Art and Culture and the Koorie Heritage Trust Residency Grant funded by the Indigenous Languages and Arts Program. She is Associate Dean, Indigenous, at MADA (Monash Art, Design and Architecture) at Monash University.butterflies -
