Pretty Valley Alpine Lodge was built at Falls Creek, Victoria in about 1963. The top floor was the former mess building at Rocky Valley hydro camp. In 1978, Barry Jones came to Falls Creek in 1978 before purchasing the Pretty Valley Alpine Lodge in 1979. He initially intended to stay for about three years but was still there four decades later. One of the important features of the Pretty Valley Alpine Lodge was Christies Cocktail Bar. Christies was the place to go for cocktails and après ski in the 80s and early 90s. In 1996, Barry decided to take a calculated gamble. Christies cocktail bar, which traded on the premise for the ten previous winters was revamped in favour of an English pub, the Cock N Bull, in the heart of Falls Creek. The pub with traditional English fare and beers on tap rapidly became a success. Anglophile memorabilia, English relics, intimate wood-panelled booths, an authentic bar and two comfortable snugs all added to the atmosphere and style of something truly unique in the snowfields. Each year, the opening of Cock N Bull unofficially marks the start of Falls' busiest time of the season, with residents gathering to celebrate. This menu is significant because it is representative of an iconic venue in Falls Creek in the 1980s and early 1990s.A printed menu for Christies Cocktails featuring a woman serving cocktails in the centre. This crystal ware originally came from the City of Sunshine Mayoral Chambers, located within the former Municipal Offices on Alexandra Avenue, Sunshine. Following the 1995 council mergers that created the City of Brimbank, the new municipality constructed the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre on Hampshire Road. During the relocation process, the crystal ware was assessed as no longer required and transferred into storage at The Hunt Club Community Arts Centre. It was later deemed surplus and discarded by the Council. The Sunshine & District Historical Society recovered the crystal ware from a waste bin at the Hunt Club Community Centre during a clean‑out. The significance of this crystal ware lies in what it represents a rare surviving piece of City of Sunshine civic regalia, an object tied to mayoral authority, municipal ceremony, and the public identity of a pre‑amalgamation council. Its survival is unusual, and its rescue from disposal gives it added heritage value.Set of 8 Crystal Ware Glasses - Wine, Whiskey, Port & Cocktail examplesNilcity of sunshine, mayor

Stella Long was a prominent Melbourne milliner operating in the Block Arcade, Flinders Lane, a centre of fashion manufacturing in mid-20th century Melbourne. The MF prefix telephone numbers and the Block address place this label in the late 1940s to 1950s period. Dorethy Rabinov’s Melbourne-based brand Ricki Reed "became an international success story. Her brand catered to “the petite and young, people who like smart simple dress” and popular with the women lib groups due to her comfortable smart pantsuits. The Ricki Reed’s brand often favored synthetic fabrics designed to keep up with the life of an active, busy woman. Through out the decades, Miss Rabinov dabbled in prairie gowns, tailored pant suits, bold colours and floral prints. Spanning over three decades Miss Rabinov kept Ricki Reed at the front of fashion, keeping ahead of trends and on the bodies of fashionistas." (Source: 'House of Darlington' website). This dress was owned, worn and donated by Dione McIntyre. The McIntyre Collection of clothing and clothing accessories forms one of the largest single donations to our Fashion & Design collection. It includes clothing and clothing accessories worn by four women in the Cohen and McIntyre families across three generations. The items worn by Melbourne architect, and Kew resident, Dione McIntyre date from the 1960s and 1970s, and include evening wear, day wear, hats and shoes. As Dione McIntyre often accompanied her husband, fellow architect Peter McIntyre, to formal events, there are a number of pieces of evening wear among the items. The McIntyre Collection also includes items worn by women of an earlier generation: by Lilian Cohen, Dione McIntyre's mother, and by her mother-in-law, the wife of the architect Robert McIntyre. At the other end of the chronological spectrum are a number of outfits belonging to, worn and donated by Annie McIntyre. These include outfits created by notable late 20th century Australian and/or international fashion designers. The McIntyre Collection is significant historically and artistically as it includes examples of design that demonstrate changing tastes in fashion over an 80-year period. The collection is also significant in that it includes the work of a large number of Melbourne designers from the 1960s to the 1990s. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, prominent milliners (such as Christian Dior and Balenciaga) popularised sculptural, draped turban shapes. These compact, artistic styles were designed to complement the neatly tailored suits, neat bouffant hairstyles, and cocktail dresses of the era, making them a staple for formal afternoon teas, weddings, and evening social eventsA mid-century draped turban cocktail hat with an integrated birdcage veil, dating precisely to the late 1950s to early 1960s. It is a classic "half-hat" or stylized turban hybrid. The base is structured to sit securely on the back or crown of the head, framing the hairstyle rather than covering the entire head. The hat features heavy, precise horizontal draping and ruching. The fabric appears to be a high-quality silk taffeta or faille in a rich navy or steel blue, which holds its crisp, structured shape exceptionally well. The sides flare out into elegant, padded horn-like or crescent folds. Attached underneath is a delicate honeycomb netting birdcage veil, designed to drape softly over the upper face or eyes for an air of mystery and sophistication.women's clothing -- hats, half hats, fashion melbourne 1950s, fashion melbourne 1960s
