Event programme for the commemorative gathering to celebrate the 90th anniversary (1904–1994) of the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV). Held at the Shrine of Remembrance on Saturday, 16 April 1994, beginning at 08:00 hours. The Shrine was chosen for it's importance to the extensive membership of the RACV, whether they be ex-service personnel or have family or friends who are. It was also chosen for it's symbolism of democracy and our obligation to provide a secure and free society for future generations. The rectangular brass plaque commemorates the centenary of the official opening of the Point Hicks Lightstation on 15 May 1890. The engraved text in capitals reads ‘Point Hicks Lightstation/This plaque commemorates/The opening of/This Lighthouse/ (Then known as Cape Everard) /On the 15 May 1890/’. It finishes with the date of 13 May 1990. It is not known whether the plaque is a fixture attached to one of the lightstation buildings, or a detached object. Concept sketch for the placement of a commemorative plaque on a rock in the Walter Wither Reserve at the corner of Arthur and Bible Streets, Eltham. The rock was installed 17 May 1990. Russell Yeoman advised (14 Jun 2017 society meeting) that the Shire of Eltham had been given a plaque to commemorate Walter Withers and that the rock was sourced from west of Melbourne with funds from a local government grant. The initial crane to lift the rock in place was too small and another crane was arranged. This also proved too small to lift it until a third and larger crane was arranged. Mary Owen, granddaughter of Walter Withers unveiled the commemorative plaque at a ceremony held at Walter Withers Reserve at the corner of Bible and Arthur Streets, Eltham, 13 Oct 1990.Colour pencil and wash on paper mounted on card and sealed at edges with masking tape. These five b/w photographs are possibly press photographs, taken as a record of an event which took place near Tostaree in c.1980s. The event was the installation of a commemorative sign for the Coach Route which operated between Cunninghame (Lks. Entrance) and Orbost from 1886-1916. This sign also acknowledges the coach drivers on this route. This sign was installed beside a track which used to be the Old Coach Route, in a forest setting between Tostaree and Lake Tyers. This route was superseded by the railway (1916) and the more direct road route between Orbost and Nowa Nowa. These five photographs are significant because they are evidence of a ceremony to commemorate the original coaching route to Orbost from Cunninghame (Lks. The WW2 Commando memorial cairn was unveiled at Tidal River on 15 November 1964 by the Lieutenant Governor of Victoria Lieutenant General Sir Edmund Herring. Former WW2 Commandos march under their Association banner to the cairn for the dedication ceremony.This was the first dedication of a significant WW2 Commando memorial. This was the "Order of service" for the inaugural unveiling of the WW2 Commando Cairn at Tidal River, Victoria. Lt General Sir Edmund Herring, Lt Governor of Victoria addressed the assembly, 2 Commando Company soldiers were the Guard of Honour, and the 4/19 PWLH Regt band played. This was the first official memorial to WW2 Commandos, located at Wilsons Promontory where the Commando units were first trained. A memorial ceremony is held in November each year since 1964.
