Crafted from cast iron and featuring a wooden handle, it is a unique piece that adds a touch of authenticity and history to our collection. The inclusion of a funnel and chimney showcases the attention to detail in the design. A rare cast iron charcoal clothes iron with a wooden handle, complete with a funnel and chimney. The goose neck iron has a hollow base into which charcoal is placed. The small hole at the back has a sliding cover that was used to regulate the draft and temperature of the iron. To keep the charcoal glowing, the cover could be opened to allow more air or oxygen in to encourage the charcoal to burn. The iron could be swung back-and-forward to revive the charcoal. The fumes produced by the charcoal are carried away from the clothes by the large funnel that acts like a chimney at the front of the iron. The holes that line the base allow air to circulate and keep the charcoal ambers burning. This vintage clothes iron is not just a functional item but a testament to the craftsmanship and ingenuity of an earlier era. 'S' is stamped in a circle on the back of the iron.flatirons, laundry irons, cast iron laundry irons -

Afterwards, the imprints of the nails remain visible as minute points in the glaze. After the first baking, the tile is glazed. The wet glaze is imprinted with a charcoal powder design. Then the painter redraws the lines with a fine paint brush and uses his own craftsmanship to color with paints that are in fact glazes colored by a metal oxide. The second baking blends these colors with the layer of tin glaze. The result is a unique and beautiful tile. Tile design, making and baking is a traditional Dutch craft and continues today. Artist's Statement: I am a practising printmaking artist and enjoy experimenting with various forms of print including chine colle, screenprinting and monoprint. I also enjoy drawing and painting, and hope to expand my practise to incorporate all these methods to create a unique style of artwork for myself. I am constantly in awe of the delicacy and grandeur of creation. I find that bringing this concept and theme thorughout my work using a botanical like approach not only expresses a part of who I am, but connects me with the creator of the universe.
