Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. was a North American jewellery company that was established in 1949 by the Stuart family as part of Emmons Jewelry, Inc. It began operations in England and Australia in 1968, and in Australia it moved from Carlton in Melbourne to Wodonga in 1969. The premises were originally on High Street in Wodonga, but a new warehouse was built in Melbourne Road later in 1969. It was a direct selling jewellery business using a party-plan model similar to Tupperware and Avon. The sales reps or 'Hostesses' were provided with jewellery samples in demonstration kits, which they displayed at jewellery parties in their homes. The designs for jewellery such as brooches, necklaces, earrings, chokers and bracelets were purchased from freelance designers and jewellery manufacturers rather than in-house designers. In 1979 Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. in Wodonga was bought by three Australian businessmen, including Wodonga local Jim Sawyer, and continued to sell jewellery under the name "Sargem Pty. Ltd”, for several more years in the 1980s. As part of the Sarah Coventry collection, these earrings have local significance with the decentralised commercial development of regional centres such as Wodonga in NE Victoria, as well as national and international significance from the perspective of social and economic developments for women after World War II. 'Drop Zone', is set in an imagined future where decreasing water availability has affected us more dramatically than anyone predicted. The water shortage has become so severe that we have to access water on a first-come first-serve basis, from military-like water ‘drop zones’, like this one, made from modified rain water tanks. These tanks function on three levels: Collected rain water causes the totem sculptures to rise and bloom; evaporation causes the totem sculptures to fall; and an anemometer (device that measures wind speed) drives a process that plays the tank like a giant drum, tuned by the amount of water contained within. This artwork envisions a future for Australia where the impact of decreasing water availability has had a more dramatic effect than any of the predictions. The shortage is so severe that military-like water ‘drop zones’, constructed of modified rainfall storage tanks have been established across the public parks of the City of Yarra for access on a first come, first serve basis. However, as the water is only replenished through rain catchment the tanks may only offer infrequent relief for the City of Yarra residents, standing as hollow reminders of the effects of inaction on the shaping of sustainable national water use.'Drop Zone' was one of three public art works installed in Yarra, in 2011, under the banner of The Environmental Public Arts Project which responded to key features of Council's Environment Strategy: 'Towards Local Sustainability 2008-2020.' The aims of this project included activating public spaces in new and creative ways through the creation of artworks which act as catalysts for further engagement and discussion around environmental themes and issues.Copyright the Artists. The tram was originally built for the Hawthorn Tramways Trust in 1916. It was sold to the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria for use on the Ballarat tramway system and converted to an early form of one-man operation in 1930. It continued in service until 1971 when the SEC operated system closed. The tram was transferred to the ownership of the Museum. The tram is a single truck with drop ends, built as an open California combination. It is painted in the 1930 SEC colour scheme. Tram was built in 1916 and delivered to the Hawthorn Tramways Trust. it was taken over by the Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board in 1920. In 1930 it was sold to the Electric Supply Company Co. of Victoria for use on the Ballarat tramway system and given the number 28. It was converted to an early form of one-man operation using barrier rails and aisles. The State Electricity Commission took over the tramway in Ballarat in 1934. In May 1934 the tram was decorated for three days to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI. In 1938 more changes were made to the appearance and it was painted dark cream and green. This eight wheel tramcar was built 1914 for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. It was sold to the State Electricity Commission in 1951 for use on the Ballarat tramway system. The tram was altered to its present form in 1953 to permit one-man operation. It was modified to operate as a one man tram but limited use due to industrial bans. A conductor was used in Ballarat. In 1954 the tram was decorated for the visit of Queen Elizabeth II. This tram was built in 1913 for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. When first in use it was number 35. It was sold to the State Electricity Commission of Victoria and became number 40 in 1951. Ballarat Tramway Museum purchased the tram in 1971. It was the last tram to run when it ran from Sebastopol to the depot on 19 September 1971.
