This book follows on from the revised edition of "First Two Years Geometry" and contains all the geometry for the intermediate certificate and trigonmetry included in the syllabus during the mid 20th century. A brown stained and creased softcover textbook with the title on the front cover in black text, Intermediate Geometry and Trigonometry by Ling & McLachlan Volume 1. There is a patterned symbol for the publisher Macmillan & Co at the bottom of the cover. Inside is a Preface to Volume 1, a Contents page and many exercises, diagrams and full explanations of the work to be studied. Lance Sebire is written in ink at the top of the title page and on the back cover. The spine has brown tape. on the length of it. This book of lectures on optics & geometry by Isaac Barrow, from 1674, was published in London in Latin to make it available to scholars across Europe. Isaac Barrow (1630-1677) was a graduate of Cambridge (BA 1649, MA 1652) and a mathematician. He became Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge in 1663 and was tutor to Newton. This book includes Barrow's studies in geometric optics and the nature of light; material that would have encouraged Newton's better known research.This book has historical significance as it details the contemporary development of the knowledge of optics in the late 17th century. It is quite rare as no other copies are listed on WorldCat for Australia.Book, bound in full calf leather of the period, about optics and geometry by Isaac Barrow, in Latin. Prize awarded to Catherine Proctor for excellence in algebra and geometry in the fourth form. This was Catherine's first year at Ballarat College. During 1877 - 1891 Ballarat College accepted enrolments from female students. The school holds the original register of this period and notes that catherine Proctor entered the school in 1878 when she was 15. She went on to be awarded Dux of the female cohort in 1879. Published by The Religious Tract Society, London. "A New and Enlarged Edition". 210pp. Blue cloth with gilt drawing of "Wild Life in the Alps" framed in black spiral pictorial.
