This jug was awarded to John Albert Edward Street for his work in soil conservation at his property, Bandiana Park. John Albert Edward Street was born on the 8th November 1895 in Wodonga, Victoria to George Street and Theresa Emily Davis. He was a grandson of Frederic Street and his wife Sarah nee Kinchington, one of the earliest pioneering families in . On arrival in the Kiewa Valley, Frederic was engaged to run Gundowring Station. In 1852 Frederic took up land at Baranduda. Over the years he consolidated his holdings including land acquired by his seven sons. They established both Bandiana Park and the old Baranduda Homestead. Most of the sons stayed in the Baranduda area. The Street family continued working to farm the original property and John and his brother Clarence were pioneers in implementing soil conservation practices to improve their pastures from the mid1920s. They dissolved their partnership in 1941 but the Street family continued to farm the land until much of the property was acquired by the Albury Wodonga Development Corporation. Mr. J. A. E. Street was a community minded man. He was a member of the provisional committee which formed to establish a Show Society and was a Foundation Member of the Wodonga Show Society s first Committee. He continued to serve the Committee for 30 years. Mr Street also served on the Wodonga Shire Council. After many years of service to the Wodonga community, John Albert Edward Street passed away in Wodonga in 1976.This teapot is significant because it was presented to a prominent Wodonga and district family for their pioneering work in soil conservation.It features grape vine motifs and has lions paw feet.UPPER MURRAY REGION SOIL CONSERVATION COMPETITION Presented to MR. Pictured left are Pano and Joyce Vlass (Vlassopoulos, Kopela) who are entertaining Nick Lucas (Lekatsas Spiliatsos) from Melbourne and another guest on the terrace of their Ithacan home at Akrovoulia/Krouvoulia. Pano and Joyce returned to live in Greece in the 1970s and built their family home on the island in a stunning location overlooking Frikes Bay. Many Australian Ithacans visiting the island in the summer months enjoyed Pano and Joyce's generous hospitality.A number of Ithacans, although relatively not many, made the decision to return to Greece in their retirement years. For the Vlassopoulos (Kopela) family it was common. Parents Dimitri and Eugenia returned in the late 1950s and all their children, Stathi, Pano, Niko and Erigoni all eventually retired in Athens and Ithaca. The donor is a descendant of Henry Bayles Ford, who was the light house keeper at Cape Otway for thirty years (1838-1878). Bayles' wife, Mary Ann had been governess for the Latrobe family. The original tea set was a gift to their daughter Agatha,, and the remaining cup and saucer has been passed down to her descendants.Porcelain cup and saucer, originally part of a tea set. These labels come from the pharmacy business of R.F.Kennedy who sold Lectar Company products and used a lighthouse image as his logo. Richard Kennedy (1826-1903), a wholesale, retail and manufacturing chemist in Timor Street, came to Warrnambool in 1880 and had what was described in the ‘Cyclopedia of Victoria’ as ‘the largest and best-appointed pharmacy in Victoria’. Kennedy was the Vice-President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Victoria, on the Pharmacy Board and was prominent in community affairs n Warrnambool. He also made local perfumes with many varieties named after people or events of the time – Nellie Melba, Federation etc. His pharmacy building in Timor Street and his house in Canterbury Road (“Ivanhoe”) still stand today.These labels are of some interest as they are associated with the Warrnambool business of the chemist, R.F.Kennedy. A young Kalypso Raftopoulos is pictured on the LHS of the photograph. The photograph was taken in Kioni, Ithaca the village where Kalypso grew up in. Kaypso migrated to Melbourne in 1936.
