The history of the scouting movement in Sunshine dates back to 1921, when Mrs Jessie McKay, the wife of George McKay helped to set up the 1st Sunshine Scout Troop at the Sunshine State School. By 1921 the scout troop had purchased the former Pentecostal Church in Martin Street and converted it into a scout hall. The Sunshine & District Historical Society Cottage Team held an exhibition to honour the history of scouting in the Sunshine District. The display included various archival documents and objects from the society's vast collection of scouting memorabilia from the district. Brief history of the Guiding Light Square Dancing club, which began in April 1974 by Colin and Margaret Fox. Practice sessions were originally held in the Fox house but were soon moved to Kooyong and continued for 21 years. Social activities, such as pie nights, picnics and outings together, were held in between demonstrations, practice sessions and trips to other square dance clubs. This uniform was worn by Sandra "Sally" Allmand circa 1953-57 as a member of the 3rd St Andrews Girl Guides company in Brighton. Sally Allmand went on to serve on the Brighton Council from 1977 to 1983 and was mayor in 1981.1950s Girl Guides uniform consisting of a dress, belt and beret. The Merle Bush Trefoil Guild was registered in Bendigo on 18/06/1981.The decision to disband the Merle Bush Trefoil Guild was made at a General Meeting on 17/02/2016. The group agreed to continue as the Merle Bush Friendship Group. The Australian Trefoil Guilds connect women who are either actively involved in Girl Guiding or have a history with Girl Guiding.
