Document - Sunshine & District Historical Society, Scouting And Guiding Exhibition

Historical information

The history of the scouting movement in Sunshine dates back to 1921, when Mrs Jessie McKay, the wife of George McKay helped to set up the 1st Sunshine Scout Troop at the Sunshine State School. By 1921 the scout troop had purchased the former Pentecostal Church in Martin Street and converted it into a scout hall.

The Sunshine & District Historical Society Cottage Team held an exhibition to honour the history of scouting in the Sunshine District. The display included various archival documents and objects from the society's vast collection of scouting memorabilia from the district. The exhibition was hosted by the Sunshine & District Historical Society Curator, Alan Dash, a former Scout Master & District Commissioner of the Sunshine District.
