The “Hoadley” connection refers to Charles Archibald "Arch" Hoadley, a foundational figure in Sunshine’s scouting movement, active from the 1920s onward. His influence is tied to the establishment of early Scout troops, halls, and youth leadership structures across Sunshine, Tottenham, and Deer Park.

The word “OANA” most closely resembles forms in Kulin languages (Woiwurrung, Boonwurrung, Taungurung, Wathaurong, Dja Dja Wurrung), which cover Deer Park, Maribyrnong, St Albans, Sunshine and Western Melbourne, the area of the Hoadley Area of Scouting.
