The album is a collection by Phil Harper obviously from a tour in 1965 to Eygpt, France and Turkey , this would have co incited with the 50 years of “ANZAC”. “Bunty Lawrence was regarded by Phil Harper as his “second Dad”. The glass plate photos are of ANZAC, dead Turkish/Australian soldiers, burials, ANZAC Armistice,, all have 1915 hand written on. Bunty Lawrence was one of the instrumental soldiers with the invention of the Telescope Rifle used on ANZAC.Photo album green buckram hard covers with 10 leafs double sided. Page 1. PS Etona was built in 1898 at Milang, South Australia as a missionary church steamer for the Church of England. The Etona's run was from Mannum, South Australia, where she was based up to Renmark. As churches were built in river tower she was no longer required and in 1912 she was sold to Captain Arch Conner who used her as a fishing steamer at Boundary Bend for many years. She was brought out of retirement during the 1956 floods to do trips up the Murrumbidgee River. She was eventually bought by interest in Echuca and restoration was commenced in 1962. The Etona, now fully restored with her original steam engine can now be seen moored along side the historic wharf at Echuca.Contributes to our knowledge of the importance of shipping and places on record those stories of the sea which would otherwise be lost.Contents Foreword - G. Photo of Joseph Post. Bertha Jorgensen It is a notable occasion for music lovers when Melbourne's esteemed 'First Lady' of the Orchestra steps out of her place as leader and is heard as soloist. Bertha Jorgensen gave her first public performance as a five year old prodigy in Castlemaine, where she then lived, and a few years later she began travelling each week the 60 miles to Melbourne for lessons with Alberto Zelman, Junior. At fifteen, still adorned with pigtail, she came to Melbourne with her family and joined his orchestra. Since then Miss Jorgensen has been constantly engaged in orchestral work, and in attaining the exacting role of leader of the Melbourne Symphony is holder of a unique position. No other major orchestra in the world is led by a woman, and many are the evidences of amazement expressed by visiting conductors. Object. 4.5 cms long pin from top clasp. Top clasp has brass ends, with leaf engraving. A 3 cm long panel in the centre is finished with light blue enamel, engraved with ''50 YEARS''. The lower clasp is gold and blue enamel engraved SERVICE. Below hangs a 3.5 cm diameter star pointed medallion, in the centre of which is a coat of arms, showing three lions, five stars(Southern Cross?)
