Craig HARRISON Dr Craig Harrison has held solo exhibitions regularly since the mid-1970s, including curated exhibitions at the La Trobe University, Australian Catholic University, and the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery. He was a finalists in a number of prestigious awards and prizes, including the Dobell Prize for Drawing (2010, NSW), and the Rick Amor Prize for Drawing (2016, Ballarat). Craig Harrison is also a respected art educator, who had taught fine art at the Deakin Univerity, MLC, and ACU between 1975 and 2004. Cr. W.D. Vaughan in his civic history of Kew includes a chapter (XXXII, pages 132-3) to Town Clerks and Surveyors. He states that H.H. Harrison began his career with the Borough of Kew in 1888 as his predecessor's assistant, becoming Town Clerk on the latter's death in 1901. On his retirement, The Herald on 30 Jul 1938 reported that: "H.H. HARRISON, Town Clerk of Kew, was entertained last night by members of the Metropolitan Institute of Town Clerks and presented with a walking stick and case of pipes, on the occasion of his retirement after 50 years' service with Kew City Council. He began his municipal career as a youth with the Bendigo City Council, and in 1888, was appointed Assistant Town Clerk at Kew. Appointed Town Clerk in 1901, he has held the office for 37 years."This portrait is one of a series of mounted and framed photographic portraits of Mayors and Town Clerks of the former Borough, Town and City of Kew, for the period 1863 to 1969. This is a photograph of 566 WX31826 LT W.J. Harrison. Wilfred John Harrison enlisted in the Permanent Military Force on the 24 Apr 1939 in Western Australia at the rank of WO2. He was one of the fifty Permanent Force members of the Australian Survey Corps as of 3 Sep 1939. WO2 Harrison’s first unit was No 3 Survey Section, located in the 2nd Military District, New South Wales. It is not known when he was commissioned as an officer. Harriet Frances Wicken, 1847-1937 was a cookery lecturer and demonstrator in London and published her first book “Kingswood Cookery Book” in 1885. She migrated to Australia in 1886 and gave cookery classes at Warrnambool. Over the ensuing years she worked as a Technical Teacher in Sydney and published a number of books on cookery and domestic economy and housekeeping. The author is one of renown in her field and spent a period of time in Warrnambool. The contents of the book show methods of cooking and basic dishes of the time.
