Rev. John Allen Manton (1807 - 1864) was born in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. He was appointed missionary to Australia in 1830. In 1833 he was appointed first chaplain at Port Arthur penal settlement. President of Horton College, first Secretary of the Australasian Wesleyan Conference, President of Conference in 1857.
