J. Rees'. This postcard is probably post-1926 when the company had completed a renovation of their Devonport building (which included 'a large, illuminated clock'. These and other postcards and photos came from the estate of David Moyle (1938-2015) who was a police officer in Emerald during late 1960s-early 1970s, and subsequently at Belgrave in the early 1980s. It may date from the first half of the 20th century.This rule is noteworthy for its attractiveness as well as its practicableness and is typical of the fine tools created by Rabone.An attractive 36 inch long four-fold folding rule made of boxwood with brass hinges. It can be fully extended or folded. It is marked out in inches with one side marked in one-twelfth and one-eighth of an inch increments, and the other side marked in one-eighteenth of an inch increments.On one side: '12 / 8 BOXWOOD RABONE MADE IN ENGLAND NO. 1380 3FT.' [These photographs were part of their campaign to the Shire of Eltham in 1975] claiming that the zoning regulations were being breached by the occupants of various factories in the nearby light industrial zone [Brougham Street, Eltham] - to the detriment of those living in adjoining residential zones, and that, despite .. earlier objections and complaints, nothing was done about it."1 black and white photograph printed with white borderInscribed on back: "Weekend photograph of factories in Brougham Street surrounded by by residential zone. On weekdays cars surround premises - these have been built approx. two years - where is the landscaping? * Undeveloped light industrial land. Careful planning needed for future. Being on high elevations backs of future buildings will be seen from Main Road Eltham and future Art Centre complex. Also Bolton Street becoming heavily used arterial road.
