Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The images held within the National Vietnam Veterans Museum make up the Gibbons Collection. International House held their tenth anniversary Commemoration Dinner on 30th June, 1967, attended by approximately 300 guests, including Lady and Lord Casey (then the Governor-General). In this, the final instalment of his career as an officer in the Traffic Branch of the NSW Railways, Russell describes his duties as Station Master, Coonabarabran during the period 1970 to 1990. This was a time when severe cutbacks were being made in the NSWR, particularly in country areas. Russell takes us through the effects this had on the railway at Coonabarabran during these years of change, as well as his additional responsibility as a union representative involved with the downsizing, closure and staff redundancies at many locations.
