This set of small photographs was produced by the Rose Stenograph Co. c1913 to be included in photograph albums. The area known as South Sassafras, was opened up for settlement in 1893 and the name was changed to Kallista in 1925.A small, paper envelope containing 12 photographs of Sassafras that are reproductions of Rose Series postcards. This volume 1 of a series of three titles has a pale pink front cover with a faint outline of a woman or child in the bush. The title is in dark pink lettering at the top with the volume and sub-title at the bottom. In the top right hand corner of the cover is a black Mont de Lancey stamp.The title page has black lettering with an early photograph of the main street of Montrose. There is Acknowledgments, Contents, a statement about 'A Growing Community' and its history and development, 1950 - 1993. The rest of the book is filled with full and half page black and white photographs of the life and times of Montrose's people, which have detailed annotations for each.
