This volume 1 of a series of three titles has a pale pink front cover with a faint outline of a woman or child in the bush. The title is in dark pink lettering at the top with the volume and sub-title at the bottom. In the top right hand corner of the cover is a black Mont de Lancey stamp.The title page has black lettering with an early photograph of the main street of Montrose. There is Acknowledgments, Contents, a statement about 'A Growing Community' and its history and development, 1950 - 1993. The rest of the book is filled with full and half page black and white photographs of the life and times of Montrose's people, which have detailed annotations for each. At the back is a comprehensive list of surnames. Pp.112.

Summary

The Monbulk in Photographs series is a localized pictorial history published by the Monbulk Historical Society. Written by Dorothy Williams, the collection preserves the visual heritage of Monbulk, The Patch, and Kallista. The series is broken down into three chronological volumes:Volume 1: The Early Settlers (1893–1920) - Focuses on initial settlement, hardships, and family life featuring over 150 black and white images.Volume 2: One Big Family (1920–1950) - Documents the growth of the community, local farming, and everyday life. Volume 3: A Growing Community (1950–1993) - Follows the town's modernization and development over the latter half of the 20th century.
