Historical information

This booklet was owned by Kallista woman, Beryl Collett (1925-2018) and forms part of a large and varied body of work by or about Beryl which is held by the Museum. Beryl was particularly skilled at lacework - a skill she had learned from her mother, Hetty Collett (Thorn) who was an accomplished milliner.

Significance

The Dandenongs have been the chosen home of many creative people who, like Beryl, have found inspiration in the natural beauty of the area. Much of this work was created by Beryl following her retirement from her accountancy job in 1980 and so epitomises the potential of the retirement phase of people's lives.

Physical description

This is an instruction booklet about tatting entitled 'Furness Tatting Designs No. 3' - written by Marjorie Willis and published in New Zealand. The front cover features a doiley in pretty pastel colours and a sticker with the name of the owners (P & B Collett). There are a range of tatting patterns including for headbands, doilies, edgings and a collar. Circa 1940s.
