The architects for this new red brick ‘semi-Gothic’ church were Messrs Gawler & Drummond. The interior of the church accommodated 500 parishioners. The seating sloped towards the pulpit with no columns obstructing the view of the worshippers. An item from an outstanding and diverse photographic collection, assembled by members of the Christian and Washfold families of Kew. A brick church was later erected in Cotham Road in 1882 and was later named Newnham Hall after Reverend Newnham. In 1921 land was purchased in Highbury Grove at a cost of 602.00. Messer's E & F Ratten donated 6 feet of land beside this new purchase which allowed for a frontage 79 feet. The Foundation stone of the current church was laid on 14 October 1922 by Councillor F.R. Patten J.P. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. Together it forms the largest privately-donated collection within the archives of the Kew Historical Society.A 19-page booklet published in 1936 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Kew Baptist Church in Highbury Grove. The item was part of a group of photos relating to the Kew Presbyterian Church, so it may show a performance in which members of the church participated or led. The location of the performance is unclear; it might be at the Kew Recreation Centre or in the Kew Presbyterian Church Hall. Intriguingly, what look to be bunya bunya pines appear in the distance above the proscenium. The photograph was originally identified as possibly being the Kew Light Opera Company, however the photograph precedes its foundation. This aerial photo was used by John O'Neill in The Church on the Hill, published 1974, so the photo predates that. This historically important photo shows major churches and schools in the vicinity, including a number that have since been demolished. Bordering St John''s Parade at the top of the photo are, on the left Sacred Heart Church and Primary School, while on the right are the original buildings of the Kew Baptist Church, beside which is Bib Stilwell's caryard and the remains of Alice Anderson's garage.
