Rifle competitions were popular activities for men in the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century. The Kew MUIOOF was based in Union Street, Kew and as a friendly society competed in competitions locally and in neighbouring municipalities.Monochrome print positive mounted on card. The MUIOOF Lodge was located in Union Street, Kew. The Lodge was established in 1863. It was demolished in the early 1990s.The Lodge Board lists the names of representatives of many of Kew's pioneering families. The Board was donated to the Society when the Hall was demolished. The Port Phillip District Branch of the Manchester Unity I.O.O.F. in Victoria was registered on 5 September 1857.A framed commemorative certificate presented to Mary L. Cranston in recognition of her services to the Port Phillip District Branch of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows (MUIOOF). In addition to the photograph of the recipient, six other photographs of officers of the lodge are included. The imagery of the certificate references western art and Christian symbolism, as well as obligatory references to labour and learning. From its beginnings in 1958, the Society has mounted exhibitions and/or displays, in early days in shop window and in community spaces located in the Kew City Hall (later Kew Library), and since 2010 at the Kew Court House. Exhibitions typically coincided with the annual Kew Community Festival in March, but after 2013 evolved into three new exhibitions yearly at the Kew Court House. Smaller displays continue to be mounted in the Kew Library.Ken Silcock and Jill O'Brien (KHS members) with a display of items from the collection of the Kew Historical Society at an unnamed and undated Kew Festival.
