The Warrnambool Agricultural High School was established in 1907, operating at sites in Koroit Street, Jamieson Street and then Hyland Street until 1961. The farm section operated at Merrivale, from 1910 to 1924. The designation of Agricultural was removed in 1924 when the school became known as Warrnambool High School. In 1961, the High School moved to a site in Albert Park, merging with Warrnambool North Technical School in 1994, to form today’s Warrnambool College. At this stage we have not researched Hunter Rogers whose signature appears on the front cover of the prospectus. A Geo. Hunter Rogers is listed as a student in the Centenary History of Warrnambool College published by former principal, Ray Welsford.This prospectus lists the Council members and Staff of the Warrnambool Agricultural High School in 1911 and provides information for prospective students including the Aims of the School, the curriculum, school fees, availability of board and lodgings, the 1911 term dates and school times. The booklet also includes photographs of the facilities. A list of the 1910 Students' results is provided. This is a quarto size, 20 page booklet with a cover of thicker blue paper. The front cover has printing in gold and navy blue with a stylised crest in green print. The white pages have a red printed border and contain black text with black and white photographs. These books were provided free of charge to pupils thanks to the support of the advertisers. The front pages which possibly contained student's work have been torn from the book and the following pages contain lists of names, times and dates . The entries relate to work at places such as E A Wright, Infectious diseases hospital, Ray Barnes as well as many names of local people and areas. Most appear to be associated with electrical work.A link to the district containing names of local people and the cover provides an interesting snapshot of businesses around the district in the 1940's.Green card cover with exercise book inside.There are advertisements for businesses on the outside and inside front cover.Some are local businesses and others relate to businesses further afield. The Warrnambool Methodist Church (now the Uniting Church) was open on the 1st of April 1939. It was built on the site of two previous churches constructed in 1850 and 1857. Henry Beater Christian (1886-1962) , was a descendant of one of the earliest settler families in Kew. Employed at the Kew Asylum as a 'public servant', he was a skilled amateur photographer, photographing numerous scenes in Kew and on his travels around Victoria. The majority of his photographs date from 1916 to 1929. His finest photographs are housed in two photograph albums. Digital copy of a photograph from page 23 of the 47-page photograph album containing 261 gelatinous silver images, loaned by Diane Washfold with permission given to digitise and hold a copy in our collection. In the 1920s, the photographer travelled throughout Victoria, including on the west coast from Port Campbell to Port Fairy. Trips were presumably made by train and by foot. Lynda Tieman and her team at the Port Fairy Historical Society have tentatively identified a number of Henry Christian's photographs of Port Fairy, of which this is one.
