The Warrnambool Woollen Mill was established in 1910 in South Warrnambool by a local company, with the building erected on a site that formerly housed another woollen mill destroyed by fire in 1882. The Warrnambool Woollen Company operated successfully for many years with over 700 employees in the 1940s and a good national reputation for quality goods. It made blankets and other woollen goods and was the first company in Australia to manufacture electric blankets. In the 1960s the mill was sold to the Dunlop Company and for the next thirty years it was bought and sold several times, finally closing in 2000 after 90 years of operation. The woollen Mill was built on a site which was in easy access to the railway line which operated along the original tramway line from the town to the jetty. It is possible that this land would have been used for parking during the period of 1950's to 1970's which was a successful period of manufacturing and trade for the Woollen Mill. A link between an important infrastructure and one of Warrnambool's most important industries.Four page folded document cream in colour . Tally Ho Business Park was developed by Land Lease, commencing in 1988, and then CGA Bryson from the late 1990's. It was completed in 2002. The land on which it stands was previously the site of the Tally Ho Boys Home. This home was run, from 1903-1986 by the Wesley Central Mission, which caters for boys from the slums. Camp Premises Agreement and negotiations mentioned on page 3. Melbourne Legacy provides camps for junior legatees. The camps gave the children an opportunity of a summer beach holiday with other Legacy children. It started with camps on the property of Legacy founder, Legatee Stan Savige, who had a place in Balnarring, close to the beach. Permanent camp buildings were built in 1930. These documents relate to those buildings. Legacy Somers Camps continued intermittently at Stan's property until it was decided in 1951 to make other arrangements for holidays. Including two other camps in the Somers area: Lord Somers Camp and the Somers School Camp (owned by the Education Department). Camps provided for junior Legatees have been very important from early in Legacy's history. In the 1920s Legacy started camps at Stan Savige's property at Balnarring. By the 1930s a permanent camp kitchen and building had been built at Somers Camp. Cattle grazing. In the 1990s government departments allocated the number of cattle being taken up to the Bogong High Plains by the families who traditionally leased land there.Cattle grazing had been banned in other Alpine areas due to concerns of their impact on the environment. Kiewa Valley cattle graziers were caught up in the controversy as it was their tradition dating back to the 1840s. Bob Hymans Collection Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in May 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grande Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans died on 7th July 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob’s endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today.This document is significant because it documents the story of an important pioneer of Falls Creek.A 5 page indenture or contract typed on paper.
