It was built on a site once owned by John Fitzgerald (1850s). The land was later acquired by H. V. McKay who had transferred his Sunshine Harvester Works to the area in 1905 - 7. In 1920, the Albion railway station was moved nearer Ballarat Road at the request of Mr McKay. More people came to live in the area including soldier settlers.Albion Primary School's mission is to 'Aim High' in all we do so that our students grow to be socially capable, reach their full academic potential and become caring, respectful community minded people. Albion Primary School is located in a residential area in Albion, a small pocket of the local government area of Brimbank, approximately 10 kilometres west of Melbourne and was established in 1926. Our current enrolment is 199 students. We have a rich cultural diversity amongst our school community. The school is set around a courtyard with spacious playing areas including a grassed oval, running track, games courts, an adventure playground, sand pit, jumping pits, shady courtyard and garden areas, a vegetable garden and fruit tree orchard. As well as classroom groups, we have our learning teams, student house groups (siblings are allocated to the same house) and a Junior School Council. The school has four main buildings. All classrooms have air conditioning and interactive screens. Block A houses classrooms, staff areas and the administration offices. Our newest building has classrooms and some small group/office spaces. Block B includes our library, canteen and a multi-purpose room used for indoor physical education, Perceptual Motor Program, drama, visiting performers, and community activities. Block C houses classrooms and specialist rooms. We expect and receive the best from our students in terms of their learning and behaviour. The school’s dedicated and effective staff is strongly committed to helping students achieve personal, behavioural, social and academic success. In terms of learning, the highest priority is placed on the work in English and Mathematics. We also have a range of specialist and extra-curricular programs that we provide. Our specialist teacher-librarian is involved in reading extension programs that support development in literacy. All children are able to develop their artistic abilities through visual arts and music program. Our music program is supported by the Australian Children's Music Foundation. A specialist Physical Education teacher provides lessons for all children as well as the opportunity for students to participate in organised lunch time sporting competitions between the house groups. Auslan is the additional language all students learn at Albion. All children participate in a student wellbeing program that focuses on developing strong connections and a sense of belonging within the school. Our school student leaders participate in programs that help develop their leadership skills. 5130.01 - Albion State School 1978 Grade 3R 5130.01 - Albion State School 1978 Grade 3R Names Back Row L2R Stephen Perrow Unknown Unknown Matthew Phillips Second Row L2R Unknown Unknown Unknown Craig Kirby Unknown Darren Balboni Graeme Anderson Unknown Greg Wilsen Darren Williams Third Row L2R Unknown Unknown Lee Causon Unknown Kim Heaviside Annette Hartman Teacher Kerri Ferguson Unknown Front Row L2R Unknown Unknown Schultz Unknown Karen Briggs Unknown Unknown 5130.02 - Albion State School 1978 Grade 4T 5130.02 - Albion State School 1978 Grade 4T Names Back Row L2R Unknown Unknown Jenny Miller Susanne Phillips Sandra Cipriani Camille Hatzogorgio Jeanette Spiteri Alison Wilson Ann Slettery Tracey Nelson Second Row L2R Dianne Temporsthammer Julie Pete Lina Emery Valya Juchima Mrs Temby Maria Attard Barbara Danchuk Jackie Green Sharon Farugia Front Row David Sultana Scott Keating Harry Chatermernidies Ross Vines Unknown Bruce Marchment Dean Chambers Colin Phillips Darren Speeding Gary James 5130.03 - Albion State School 1978 Grade Prep F 5130.04 - Albion State School 1978 Grade 5 6D 5130.05 - Albion State School 1978 Grade 3 4S albion state school, albion primary school, adelaide street, albion -

Stanhope was a residence run by Melbourne Legacy to take care of children whose fathers were deceased servicemen, and who may have been left orphans, or whose mother may have been unable to care for them herself, or they needed to stay in Melbourne for further education. Generally Stanhope looked after girls over 14. The children were cared for until they were old enough to become independent. A record of a reunion at Stanhope. This photo shows Matron Dorrie Vines with three residents. Names around the photo L to R: Lee Henneberry, Doreen Devlin, and Betty Henderson. The newspaper article from The Age was published on 28 August 1959 and mentions Miss Vines has worked at Stanhope since 1946 when she returned from war service. She had been a trained nurse and served in Middle East and New Guinea with the RAANC. She had been awarded the medal of an Associate of the Royal Red Cross and was mentioned in despatches. Mention of the routine of the house include that the girls sleep in large airy bedrooms which they look after themselves. They generally do their own washing and ironing. There is a well equipped sewing room where they can make their own clothes. There is a radio and television and piano though between 7 and 9pm is quiet study time. A legacy member joins them for dinner most evenings and the girls do their own washing up. They can cook in the kitchen if they wish. There is staff of an assistant matron, a cook and two housemaids. Girls have picnics and outings arranged and three or four times a year and they have informal dances at Stanhope.
