This item was a standard maths book used in Victoria. It would have been a continuation of the Part 1 of the same name. Elementary level would have been in the early years of secondary school. This has historic significance as it shows what Elemenetary Algebera was taught in the early - mid 20th century. This book would have been used in the Kiewa Valley schools by a local identity Wilma Davies therefore has social significance and research value. This book is now out of print and is a collectible item.A blue maths book with faded blue coth cover. It has gold lettering on the side of the book stating the name, author and publisher with their logo. It would have had its name on the cover at one stage but it no longer on it due to water damage.Cover has a triangle with Cambridge Mathematical Series enmbossed around the three sides. Braille hand frames and styluses were the primary way to produce Braille for over a century. The stylus was used to make a separate indentation for each dot, and the hand frame to keep dots within the same cell. Braille rows are produced from right to left. The process was very time consuming. Volunteer transcribers for the library could take an average of ½ hour to produce one page of Braille using this method. For example: “Oliver Twist” required approximately 600 sheets equating to 300 hours of work! Various metal hand frames accompanied by a metal stylus with wooden handle. Some include a wooden slate, which was used to make the system portable as a firm base was needed to sustain puncture pressure. The frame can also be slotted into both sides of the slate, thereby ensuring that the lines of Braille were straight across the page. This book was produced by experienced teachers to meet the requirements of the revised course of study in arthmetic for elementary schools. Teachers were expected to use this book as an aid rather than merely as a series of exercises as a matter of routine. This book would have been used by children all over Victoria in year 7 or form 1 for maths classes. This book is social significance due to the names of local people that are in the book and shows that this would have been used in Kiewa Valley elementary schools in the mid 20th Century.
