The Ballarat School of Mines Magazine does not appear to have been publishing in 1914, 1915, 1917, 1918, and 1919.A red bound copy of the Ballarat School of Mines Students' Magazine, holding copies for years 1916 to 1923. 1916 The 1916 Students' Magazine features many references to World War One, including an image of Ted Cannon, a gifted artist attending the Ballarat Technical Art School (part of the Ballarat School of Mines [SMB] campus) from 1912. After completing his art course Ted was employed as an assistant teacher at the Art School, before taking a position as cartoonist with the Ballarat Star newspaper at the end of 1914. In 1915 Ted was awarded the prestigious Victorian Education Department Senior Technical School Scholarship. Only months into his scholarship, Ted volunteered for the AIF. The MPC was used in US and Australian bases and was not used in the general Vietnamese community. This was so US Dollars could not make their way into the black market etc. Every few months the MPC was renewed, differant styles, colours etc and old notes were handed in and new ones issued..1) A4 white sheet with 5 Military Payment Currency notes attached via photo corners. Military payment certificates (currency) used to pay U.S troops in Vietnam, also allied troops, for use in military installations, not for use in the general public. This was to prevent the use of U.S Dollars getting into the black market and use by the enemy. Every so often a change would happen and all money handed in and new notes would be issued. These Military payment Certificates were used in U.S Military Installations, PX’s instead of U.S Dollars. This was to avoid Dollars getting into the black market and used to buy weapons etc. Every few months there would be a shut down and all Payment certificates handed in and new ones issued. They were also used in Australian bases in Vietnam.
