Removed from HMAS Canberra before being scuttled. HMAS Canberra was an Adelaide class guided missile frigate of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Based on the Oliver Hazard Perry class design, Canberra was one of four Adelaide class ships constructed in the United States of America, and one of six to serve in the RAN. The frigate entered service in 1981. During her career, Canberra was assigned to escort the Royal Yacht Britannia during Queen Elizabeth II's visit in 1988, helped enforce the post-Gulf War United Nations' sanctions against Iraq during 1992 and 1993, was part of the Australian responses to the 1998 Indonesian riots and the 2000 Solomon Islands Civil War, and returned to the Persian Gulf in 2002 as part of the War in Afghanistan. In 2005, Canberra became the first ship of her class to be decommissioned. The frigate was marked for conversion into a dive wreck and artificial reef off Barwon Heads, Victoria, and was scuttled on 4 October 2009. German Luftwaffe (Land Forces) minefield warning flag from WWII.originally intended to be gas markers, rather than mines, but as it turned out, the use changed .they were mounted on a red metal pole & there were 12 to a set in a leather pack. This Flag was presented to the Treasurer of Waverley RSL. It is a souvenir from Bardia in Libya The Battle of Bardia was fought over three days between 3 and 5 January 1941, as part of Operation Compass, the first military operation of the Western Desert Campaign of the Second World War. It was the first battle of the war in which an Australian Army formation took part, the first to be commanded by an Australian general and the first to be planned by an Australian staff. Major General Iven Mackay's 6th Division assaulted the strongly held Italian fortress of Bardia, Libya, assisted by air support and naval gunfire, and under the cover of an artillery barrage. The 16th Infantry Brigade attacked at dawn from the west, where the defences were known to be weak. Sappers blew gaps in the barbed wire with Bangalore torpedoes and filled in and broke down the sides of the anti-tank ditch with picks and shovels. This allowed the infantry and 23 Matilda II tanks of the 7th Royal Tank Regiment to enter the fortress and capture all their objectives, along with 8,000 prisoners. In the second phase of the operation, the 17th Infantry Brigade exploited the breach made in the perimeter, and pressed south as far as a secondary line of defences known as the Switch Line. On the second day, the 16th Infantry Brigade captured the township of Bardia, cutting the fortress in two. Thousands of prisoners were taken, and the Italian garrison now held out only in the northern and southernmost parts of the fortress. On the third day, the 19th Infantry Brigade advanced south from Bardia, supported by artillery and the Matilda tanks, now reduced in number to just six. Its advance allowed the 17th Infantry Brigade to make progress as well, and the two brigades reduced the southern sector of the fortress. Meanwhile, the Italian garrisons in the north surrendered to the 16th Infantry Brigade and the Support Group of the British 7th Armoured Division outside the fortress. In all, some 36,000 Italian prisoners were taken. The victory at Bardia enabled the Allied forces to continue the advance into Libya and ultimately capture almost all of Cyrenaica. In turn this would lead to German intervention in the fighting in North Africa, changing the nature of the war in that theatre. Bardia boosted the competence and reputation of the Australian Army. The Foot gong plunger is missing. The clapper part has been extended by welding a section of steel onto it and a rolled section of stainless steel wire has been attached to ring it remotely from an overhead position. Minolta Pocket Autopak Camera with a Pocket Flash 110 attached and cover.Three pieces in total. It was made 1978 with a 26mm (f3.5) zone focusing (1.6 feet to infinity) lens. Electronic shutter with speeds of 2 seconds - 1/1000. CDS meter provides programmed exposure control. Hot shoe. Tripod and cable release sockets. Built-in close-up lens and detachable flash. Viewfinder shows a red warning LED if a flash is needed. With the f:3.5 lens, a flash with a guide number of only 40 (in feet, at ISO 100) will be good to over 20 feet with ISO 400 film. The camera senses when a flash unit is mounted, and automatically sets smaller apertures for focus distances of 12' or less, to prevent . overexposure, assuming a fixed-output flash with a guide number of 40. Built-in sliding lens cover locks shutter. Black and white photograph of the Essendon tram depot, taken from the western side of Mt Alexander Road, looking north east. Shows the various buildings of the depot, has l1 trams in the view. Photo taken late 1950's to early 1960's. The tram stop pole fitted with a set of traffic lights, "Warning beware of Trams Crossing" sign and a box located by the pole for tramway paperwork collection. First four trams are: 836, 474, 766 and 817. Printed on Fujichrome paper. Tram 13 was built by Meadowbank Manufacturing Co. Sydney in 1915. First ran for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust and the Geelong. Came to Ballarat in 1936. When the trams stopped running in 1971 it was donated to Lake Goldsmith Steam Preservation Society. Returned to Ballarat in 1983 on loan to Ballarat Tramway Museum. Re-entered service in 1988. Photograph shows Tram 13 in Wendouree Parade near Haddon Street. It was the first tram out for day. Warning sign is on the side of the road - "WARNING ONCOMING TRAMS". This tram was built in 1918 by Duncan and Fraser of Adelaide for Hawthorn Tramway Trust, Melbourne. It was their Tram 31. Came to Ballarat in 1947 and numbered 34. It ran until the closure of the trams in October 1971. It then went to the Australian Electric Transport Museum, Adelaide, South Australia, and classified as operable. The photograph shows Tram 34 in Wendouree Parade near Haddon Street. On left is a yellow sign warning of oncoming trams. This was the fourth tram out of the depot on its way to the city via Wendouree Parade. Photograph taken by Campbell Duncan on 19/09/1971.
