Debutante Balls date back to the 18th century. They were originally intended to present young women to society. They were also used as an opportunity to teach dancing and to mix with each other at a formal function using social etiquette.Mt Beauty Mothers' Club was very active and supported the Mt Beauty Higher Elementary School and the community by organising a Debutante Ball in 1956 and 1958.1. Mt Beauty township was created in the late 1940s when the SECV built houses, roads, amenities etc. for their workers working on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The town was built on a paddock so gardening was popular amongst the population.The residents of Mt Beauty created gardens for their new homes and were encouraged to enter competitions for the best flowers etc.. This was an enjoyable social occasion for them. 5 blue cardboard cards won for First Prize in 'Flower Show and Fete' presented by the Mt Beauty and District Progress Association Auxilary and the Mt Beauty Mothers Club.Name of winner written on each - won by members of the McCullough familygardening, flower show, mccullough family, mt beauty progress association

The school was built to educate the increasing number of children of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme population. The school opened in 1948 in the Recreation hall and in the new building (photo) in 1950. A new wing was built in 1951 and became the Mt Beauty Higher Elementary School in 1953. By 1958 it had 617 pupils.Mr George Redfern was the Head Teacher for one year in 1951.Large black and white photo framed in thick wood and backed with cream cardboard. Education in the Kiewa Valley began with small schools in many locations enabling the children from the farms to attend their nearby school. As the number of children decreased and transport improved the schools were consolidated into fewer schools located in a centralised position.The history of each school gives an insight into the surrounding population - their numbers, occupations and lifestyle as well as their involvement in the running of the schools eg. Mothers' Clubs etc.8 groups of foolscap size papers stapled or pinned together each with the heading 'School History'. The first 4 are the same - "Mt Beauty School'. Schools divided the children / students into houses for internal sports competition. The students' team and their participation was rewarded by acknowledgment on a shield or trophy.This trophy was for Mt Beauty Primary School sports during the 1950s and 1960s. It was sponsored by the Mt Beauty School Mothers' Club indicating that the parents supported the sports. During this time, the 1950s and 1960s Mothers' Clubs existed and supported the schools. Later they became Parents Clubs and later still struggled to exist at all as both parents went to work.Wooden shield with banner (silver plated) across the top. Central round silver plated medallion which is surrounded by 4 small medallions. Timber is stained with a darker stain around the edges.
