The boys came across from Stony Point and planted trees and were plagued by mosquitoes. The poem is quite humorous describing their venture to Cowes. They decided that Cowes derived its name - "The mosquitoes were cows down at Cowes." On the back of the folder is a note from E Murnane, one of the Supervisors, to "Dear John". The poem is most likely written by E Murnane too as it has the initials (E.M.) at the end. The Souvenir Folder was donated by Neil Lacco.A souvenir folder with two photographs included of the First School Boys' Camp at Cowes run by the Education Department. The Fred Rochow Railways Collection incorporates photos related to the operation of the Wodonga Railway Station including different types of trains and railways staff C. 1930 – 1990. It was donated to the Wodonga Historical Society by Fred Rochow, a railwayman who spent many years based in Wodonga. He joined the Victorian Railways on 17th June l947 and retired in 1988. For some time, he was a member of the Australian Federated Union of Locomotive Enginemen and served a term as a member of the Trades Hall Council. He had an extensive knowledge of the struggles that took place to achieve better conditions for railway workers. Fred worked for many years as a fireman and then worked his way up the ranks to driver, experiencing many changes from the days of steam locomotives through to diesel trains, locomotives and even the modern XPT train. He worked throughout Victoria at different stages of his career, with his final working years focused on the northeast of Victoria and the Albury to Melbourne line. After his retirement, Fred continued to share his love of steam miniature trains with the community The first railway union in the world was created in Melbourne in 1861 when twenty locomotive drivers banded together to form the Locomotive Engine Drivers Association of Victoria. The forerunner to the A.F.U.L.E., the Association continues today and is the oldest continuous railway union in the world. A.R.U. - The Australian Railways Union formed in September 1920 with the amalgamation of the Queensland Railways Union, the New South Wales Amalgamated Railway and Tramway Service Association, the Victorian Railway Union, the Railway and Tramway Employees Association of South Australia and the Tasmanian Railway Union. It was the first Australian all-grades organisation of railway workers and was federally registered on 8 February 1921. In 1993 the ARU merged with other unions to form the Rail Tram & Bus Industry Union.This collection has local and statewide significance as it captures images of trains, locomotives and personnel who operated the railway services in Wodonga and throughout Northeast Victoria. This framed photo usually hangs on the wall of the meeting room at the Invermay Hall, on the Invermay Reserve. The photograph features Invermay Cricket Club member Tom Reidy who donated his Cricket Club jacket to the Invermay Local History Assn. This jacket is now held in the ILHA Collection.The photograph is of historical and cultural significance. This is the only known copy of the photograph. The 1982 team included Tony Lockett who went on to play at the highest level becoming the highest goal scorer in the history of the VFL/AFL with 1,360 goals in a career of 281 games, that commenced in 1983 with the St Kilda Football Club, and finished in 2002 with the Sydney Swans. Lockett is the only full-forward ever to win the coveted Brownlow Medal, in 1987, a season in which he was decorated with several honours. He is a four-time Coleman Medallist, kicked more than 100 goals in a season on six occasions (an AFL record), and is a member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame. The story behind that is that a cup appeared at the Golf Club (its unknown where it came from) which was inscribed with 1927 J. McCully Peterborough Golf club Open Champion. It was probably not referring to this Peterborough but this club did not hold an Open Championship at that time, so it was decided that they would. The first Open championship was held in 1980 but the record from 1927 was included as it was impetus behind the decision to hold the Open Championship, which continues to this day. In World War 2 residents of Victoria were concerned about enemy attack so a series of Spotters Huts were established along the coast. In Lorne the Spotters Hut was at Queenspark in the old recreation building. Many locals volunteered their time. The plaque was made by the Lorne Historical Society to honour these people who volunteered to join the Air Observers Corp. A rectangular thin Metal sheet , with black printing. This plaque was made in 1997 as a project of the Lorne Historical Society to pay tribute to the Spotters who worked in the spotters cabin at Queens Park Lorne during the Second World War. The Fred Moore trophy is held on Australia Day long weekend. This trophy commemorates the losers, ie the highest score of the day over 12 holes. It began in 1967, and continues. Believed to be donated by Bill Cumming to honour the effort of the players. The event is a non handicap game, so anyone can play, not necessarily golfers. It is still quite a coveted prize. This booklet contains the favourite sayings and quotations of residents of Warrnambool and surrounding districts. The source of the sayings is listed. It was probably produced as a fund-raiser for an organization or club and sold at Christmas time, perhaps early in the 20th century. This booklet is of high interest because of the many names listed from Warrnambool, Panmure, Framlingham, Nullawarre, Nirranda, Ballangeich, Allansford, Port Fairy Grasmere and other small towns. The booklet not only lists those residents at that time in history but also tells us something about those people, their philosophies and attitudes, through which sayings they chose. Well-known names include those of Terrington, Fidler, Burnie, Uren, Tomlinson, McGinness, Peacock, Murnane and Dallimore. This is a soft cover booklet of 22 pages. It contains the favourite sayings and quotations of people from Warrnambool and surrounding areas. The cover is blue with patterns down the left side and above and under the titles which are printed in dark blue. The pages are bound with white thread and they originally had a metal staple which has been removed. The cover is a little torn and stained. Massacre Bay is located on Victoria's Great Ocean Road, and is in the centre of the Bay of Martyrs. The bay consists of 20 m high, red limestone bluffs.
