This was through the National Safety council of Australia, Victorian Division. The paper was set by C T Willis, Manager, Occupational Department. The exam was held 4th October 1972. Allotted marks for each question are given. Eric was one of those instrumental in the development of VIOSH at Ballarat in 1970s.Two A4 pages - typed. Council's reply form Gordon Lewis, addressed to Dennis Else, says they will obtain the trophy from previous winner and inscribe new winner's name on it and replica. Suggestion is that the trophy be kept at the College and displayed. This practice is followed at other Colleges. The Federal President Mr Clive Peterson to make the presentation. Derek Woolley replied and explained the College was in an interim period between Dennis Else and Derek Viner. Second letter is to Mr Raeburn Epthorp and award goes to the best Human Factors student. The third letter is to Mr Gordon Lewis - General Manager, National Safety Council of Australia. The award is for the best overall academic performance during the course. It is the "Max Eise Perpetual Trophy". The N.S.C.A. provide a miniature replica for the student to keep. People known in the photographs are: E.J. Barker, E.J. Tippett, Mr Jim Reid and Barry Jones. E.J. Barker (Jack) was the Principal of SMB from 1964-1976. He then became the Foundation Director of Ballarat Institute/College of Advanced Education from 1976-1987. The Library Building at Mount Helen Campus if named after him. E.J. Tippett was a member of SMB Council from 1934-1960. He was President of the Council from 1940-1960. He was a member of the Interim Council established to plan the development of the Victorian Institute of Colleges. He then became a member of the Council of the Victorian Institute of Colleges. The Library Building at SMB is named after him. In 1975 he was recognised by the State Government and awarded an MBE. Hon Barry Jones, Member of State Government from 1972 to 1977. He then entered Federal Parliament and was a member from 1977 to 1998. During his time he was Minister for Industry, Science and Technology from1983 to 1990. Ann Tippett - wife of E.J. Tippett. It was at the 12th Residential "Accident Control" Course, Raywood Inservice Centre and hosted by the National Safety Council of Australia, South Australia Division. It centred on noise in the workplace and the effects it has. Trade Union Health and Safety Training is supported by a grant from the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission. One condition of this grant is that the ACTU undertakes an evaluation of the training. Based on the earlier successful tests with the RAAF Dragonfly in 1948-49, together with the effective use of aircraft during the extensive Gippsland bushfires in March 1965, the Forests Commission took the plunge and contracted its own dedicated Bell 47G in the summer of 1965-66. This was an Australian first for any forest or bushfire agency. Rappelling trials at Snowy Plains and Tallangatta soon followed, which led to operations based at Heyfield with a two-man crew to quickly attack small fires in remote locations. The Heyfield rappel crew was another Australian first and remained in place for the following two fire seasons but lapsed after concerns from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) about the stability of the small and underpowered Bell 47G. Later in 1982, after nearly 18 years absence, the Commission recommenced rappelling operations using larger and more powerful National Safety Council (NSCA) Bell 212 and Bell 412 helicopters based in Sale, Gippsland. During the 1983 bushfires, a specially trained and equipped FCV crew rappelled by rope from a hovering NSCA helicopter to suppress a small fire in remote terrain in the Orbost Forest District.
