This was through the National Safety council of Australia, Victorian Division. The paper was set by C T Willis, Manager, Occupational Department. The exam was held 4th October 1972. Allotted marks for each question are given. Eric was one of those instrumental in the development of VIOSH at Ballarat in 1970s.Two A4 pages - typed. Council's reply form Gordon Lewis, addressed to Dennis Else, says they will obtain the trophy from previous winner and inscribe new winner's name on it and replica. Suggestion is that the trophy be kept at the College and displayed. This practice is followed at other Colleges. The Federal President Mr Clive Peterson to make the presentation. Derek Woolley replied and explained the College was in an interim period between Dennis Else and Derek Viner. Second letter is to Mr Raeburn Epthorp and award goes to the best Human Factors student. The third letter is to Mr Gordon Lewis - General Manager, National Safety Council of Australia. The award is for the best overall academic performance during the course. It is the "Max Eise Perpetual Trophy". The N.S.C.A. provide a miniature replica for the student to keep. People known in the photographs are: E.J. Barker, E.J. Tippett, Mr Jim Reid and Barry Jones. E.J. Barker (Jack) was the Principal of SMB from 1964-1976. He then became the Foundation Director of Ballarat Institute/College of Advanced Education from 1976-1987. The Library Building at Mount Helen Campus if named after him. E.J. Tippett was a member of SMB Council from 1934-1960. He was President of the Council from 1940-1960. He was a member of the Interim Council established to plan the development of the Victorian Institute of Colleges. He then became a member of the Council of the Victorian Institute of Colleges. The Library Building at SMB is named after him. In 1975 he was recognised by the State Government and awarded an MBE. Hon Barry Jones, Member of State Government from 1972 to 1977. He then entered Federal Parliament and was a member from 1977 to 1998. During his time he was Minister for Industry, Science and Technology from1983 to 1990. Ann Tippett - wife of E.J. Tippett. Dr Dennis Else, Chairman, Health and Safety Unit at Ballarat College of Advanced Education, presented this paper "The Sharing of Solutions to Problems" in September 1986. It was at the 12th Residential "Accident Control" Course, Raywood Inservice Centre and hosted by the National Safety Council of Australia, South Australia Division. It centred on noise in the workplace and the effects it has. Report is the Trade Union Health and Safety Representative Training Evaluation Report, October 1987, by S P Cowley. Trade Union Health and Safety Training is supported by a grant from the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission. One condition of this grant is that the ACTU undertakes an evaluation of the training. In 1986 the Ballarat College of Advanced Education Health and Safety Unit was asked to undertake the training evaluation which was done by Stephen Cowley, Research Fellow within the Health and Safety Unit at BCAE.One hundred and ten A4 sheets - type written and diagrams.
