This event took place on 3rd November, 1972 and was carried out by the then Minister for Tourism Murray Byrne M.L.C. The P.S. Comet was launched in 1812. Working originally on the River Clyde in Scotland, it was widely recognised as Europe's first commercially successful steamboat service.In 1972 the National Bank used this illustration of Sandridge from Railway Pier, Williamstown, as the illustration for their November 1972 Calendar. It was taken from a work by the colonial artist S.T. GILL and shows the many sailing ships moored of Sandridge Beach as well as the steam vessel 'Comet'. In ink below print -Famous for gold rush sketches. Appeared in Gill's "Victoria Illustrated 1857. The linen is a souvenir marking the history of St Mark's church. It was donated to SDHS for its collection. The linen details of the original church in Derby Road, Sunshine, was dedicated on 31 July 1895, moved to Anderson Road on 27 October 1914 and destroyed by a fire on 6 November 1972. The new church was dedicated on 17 October 1959 and consecrated on 17 October 1982. This linen be a souvenir to mark the historical events.A cotten linen, cream in colour, square in shape. A coloured wall poster freaturing a photograph of the Vung Tau Ferry (HMAS Sydney) with military personnel on the deck.HMAS Sydney (3) a converted Aircraft Carrier began transporting personnel and equipment from Australia to Vietnam in May 1965. She was to become a familiar site and a temporary home for over 16,000 Army and Air Force personnel as they were deployed to and from The vietnam war. Because of her 25 seperate trips to vietnam she bacme affectionately known as the Vung Tau Ferry. Her last trip to Vietnam was in November 1972.
