The bride's dress was purchased from the 'House of Franke, Stuart', 612 Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn, a very popular place in the 1970s for brides. Kathryn was educated at Ruyton Girls' School with Margaret Franke so it was a nice connection. Margaret's family business had been in operation since 1926. I loved my wedding dress. It was soft and comfortable to wear and kept me warm on the May evening. It was elegant and I knew I would never get the chance to wear something with a long train again. Walking down the staircase at the Windsor Hotel in Melbourne felt very grand; a memory I still hold today. (Kate Reeve, 2022) [Note: Two photos and a newspaper article which are viewable in the image carousel are held in the donation file]Strong local provenance to Hawthorn, Kew and Boroondara due to owner and retailer. It is a representative example of wedding dresses sold in the 1970s. The wedding dress is made of fine soft white jersey with guipure lace around the neckline, wrists and bodice. The long train has three small discreet loops along the hemline which can be slipped onto a finger for a draped effect giving ease of movement for dancing etc. A satin trimmed veil covered the length of the train and was secured on the head with a satin coronet. White leather shoes were worn. The bouquet Phalaenopsis orchids. (Note: the veil and shoes were not part of the donation)Label: Franke Stuart / Hawthornfashion & design - 1970s, wedding dresses, kate reeve, peter reeve, franke stuart, retailers - glenferrie road - hawthorn (vic.) -

The Board was concerned with the shortage of mine managers for the goldfields. Classes began in surveying, mathematics, and chemistry and a decade later they included metallurgy , assaying and geology. With the decline in goldmining the direction of the college changed and broadened, the art School was established and the Ballarat Junior Technical School developed. In 1976, the tertiary sector seperated from the School of Mines and Industries Ballarat to form the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In the 1980s SMB was a Community College of Technical Education and Further Education (TAFE) offering a wide range of vocational, enrichment and preparatory programs. It is continuing the tradition of providing for the educaiton needs of people within the Central Highlands. During the 1970s and 80s it acquired and refurbished old buildings and developed new facilities to keep up with the needs of an expanding curriculum and student population. The era of these annual reports is just before the merger with the University of Ballarat.A number of soft card covered annual report for the Ballarat School of Mines. .1) 12 page black covered report featuring an image of the E.J. It was built on a site once owned by John Fitzgerald (1850s). The land was later acquired by H. V. McKay who had transferred his Sunshine Harvester Works to the area in 1905 - 7. In 1920, the Albion railway station was moved nearer Ballarat Road at the request of Mr McKay. More people came to live in the area including soldier settlers.Albion Primary School's mission is to 'Aim High' in all we do so that our students grow to be socially capable, reach their full academic potential and become caring, respectful community minded people. Albion Primary School is located in a residential area in Albion, a small pocket of the local government area of Brimbank, approximately 10 kilometres west of Melbourne and was established in 1926. Our current enrolment is 199 students. We have a rich cultural diversity amongst our school community. The school is set around a courtyard with spacious playing areas including a grassed oval, running track, games courts, an adventure playground, sand pit, jumping pits, shady courtyard and garden areas, a vegetable garden and fruit tree orchard. As well as classroom groups, we have our learning teams, student house groups (siblings are allocated to the same house) and a Junior School Council. The school has four main buildings. All classrooms have air conditioning and interactive screens. Block A houses classrooms, staff areas and the administration offices. Our newest building has classrooms and some small group/office spaces. Block B includes our library, canteen and a multi-purpose room used for indoor physical education, Perceptual Motor Program, drama, visiting performers, and community activities. Block C houses classrooms and specialist rooms. We expect and receive the best from our students in terms of their learning and behaviour. The school’s dedicated and effective staff is strongly committed to helping students achieve personal, behavioural, social and academic success. In terms of learning, the highest priority is placed on the work in English and Mathematics. We also have a range of specialist and extra-curricular programs that we provide. Our specialist teacher-librarian is involved in reading extension programs that support development in literacy. All children are able to develop their artistic abilities through visual arts and music program. Our music program is supported by the Australian Children's Music Foundation. A specialist Physical Education teacher provides lessons for all children as well as the opportunity for students to participate in organised lunch time sporting competitions between the house groups. Auslan is the additional language all students learn at Albion. All children participate in a student wellbeing program that focuses on developing strong connections and a sense of belonging within the school. Our school student leaders participate in programs that help develop their leadership skills. 5129.01 - Albion State School 1976 Grade 1C 5129.01 - Albion State School 1976 Grade 1C Names Back Row L2R Unknown Michael Siobecki Matthew Phillips Mark Gowans Mario Benzel Unknown Unknown Unknown Second Row L2R Unknown Unknown Unknown Pauline Shaw Unknown Annette Hartman Julie Shaw Unknown Unknown Unknown Unknown Front Row L2R Peter Young Unknown Offie Michelle Grieg Lydia Hyett Unknown Unknown Greg Wilson Unknown 5129.02 - Albion State School 1976 Grade 2E 5129.02 - Albion State School 1976 Grade 2E Names Back Row L2R Gary James Laxo Dean Chanbers Ann Slattery Unknown Colin Phillips Billy David Sultans Unknown Second Row L2R Debra Bristow Tanya Berry Susanne Phillips Camille Hatzegorgio Unknown Mrs Ewels Valya Juchima Sandra Cipriani Donna Vassalo Karen Mills Unknown Front Row L2R Ross Vines Paul Berry Bruce Marchment Matthew Enever Stuart McKay Gordon Rae Murray Lukiane Lazo 5129.03 - Albion State School 1976 Grade 3 4 5 6 5129.03 - Albion State School 1976 Grade 3 4 5 6 Names Back Row L2R Unknown Greg Jefferd Peter Haynes Sam Folino McDonaki Unknown Peter Paskowicz Brett Scholes Unknown Unknown Unknown Second Row L2R Unknown Sharon Bristow Unknown Unknown Unknown Unknown Sharon Ormston Unknown Unknown Unknown Front Row L2R Unknown Unknown Unknown Unknown Unknown Unknown Unknown Unknown Johnson 5129.04 - Albion State School 1976 Grade 3 4Y 5129.04 - Albion State School 1976 Grade 3 4Y Names Back Row L2R Craig Galloway Unknown Peter Robinson Bruce Willaton Bradley Lukane Peter Wilson Mark Lewis Kurt Rundell John Keating Unknown Second Row L2R Narelle Trainor Margaret Caddick Debra Sandra Ormston Gordaro Unknown Jenny Farrugia Unknown Front Row L2R Steven McIlwaine Kim Van Ardel Unknown Tijan Knight Unknown Kathy Hoban Lisa Holden David Ford 5129.05 - Albion State School 1976 Grade 5 6 5129.06 - Albion State School 1976 Staff 5129.06 - Albion State School 1976 Staff Names Back Row L2R Mrs Lorna Stainer Mrs Maree Doherty Miss Glenda Galbraith Mr Peter OBrien Mr Tim Godbor Miss Reeve Yoffe Miss Maureen OMahony Miss Sue Howell Front Row L2R Mrs Cathy Williams Mrs Wilma Fielding Miss Kerry He Mr Paul Clancy Miss Maree Higginson Mrs Lois Ewels Mrs Marlen De Lorenzo Absent Mrs Diana Schultzalbion state school, albion primary school, adelaide street, albion -

These were duplicate items so only their story was retained in addition to the image of Rita located in Multimedia. “Enclose two items which may be of interest to add to your collection. They belonged to my mother, Rita Sedgwick (nee Glenn), who died earlier this year in April. She worked for Dennys Lascelles in two separate periods. First as a young girl, who had finished her schooling, at Morongo Presbyterian ladies College, having been sent as boarder there by her parents from their farm at Mathoura (just north of Echuca). This period was from 1942 — 1947. It was her second job out of school having worked first at the then Geelong Telephone Exchange. She would commute daily to work on a bicycle from where she was then living in Drumcondra. She had the front office role of receptionist and telephonist driving an old manual switchboard. The old front desk was her domain. She departed in 1947, shortly after she was married in late 1946. She spoke fondly of her times at the company as a young girl in her late teens and early twenties. Her second stint was much later, but again as the front-desk telephonist and receptionist commencing in 1972, ending 11 years later in 1983. This was a period when Sir Henry Bolte was on the Board, Don Urqhuart was MD, Ray Hobson was General Manger, Cliff Bone the company Secretary, Peter Keys the CFO and Jim Hay was also on the Executive team. While there were some 25 years between her periods of service, she welcomed the chance to re-join the company. Again, it was a time of hard work, and good friends. The busy times were the wool auctions, when the Firm would be visited by representatives of the big Japanese trading houses such as Mitsui, and Kanematsu. The Chief Auctioneer, Mr. Reeves (I can't recall his first name), would hold court at the now demolished Geelong Wool Exchange — I saw him in action once — what a sight. The huge show floors in the Denny's building would be full of open bales and samples for the buyers to inspect, and for mum days would start at 0800, and finish at 1800 or later. In quieter times over summer, it was reported that the empty show floor would provide an excellent arena for the more enthusiastic cricketers to get in a bit of practise with a tennis ball at lunch and after closing time! Dennys was a full-service firm for wool growers, with branches all over the Western Districts as far afield as Mt Gambier, but through Timboon, Warrnambool, and the like, as I am sure you are aware. She also saw the merger of Dennys and Strachan to create DSM, and later the amalgamation with AML&F to create Dennys AML (I think). She saw the change from the old manual switch board to the then latest of PABX technologies and was part of the team the relocated from the original offices to the new address on the south side of Brougham Street. Along with the shift from the large show floor-based sales of the past. She retired from fulltime work in mid-1983, again with fond memories and friendships that lasted a lifetime. I found these two items among her things recently, and felt that given her connection to the industry, and the place in which the Museum now resides you may like to add them to the collection. I hope you can find a home for them, and that they might add a little to the story that the wool museum now houses and curates.” Program 12pp: soft pale grey cover, contians brief history of the company , the buildings and at the last page is a list of acceptances for the reunion, 2nd October, 1988Judith Lagingdennys, lascelles limited -
