These certificates of death are original and give details of 47 deaths from July 1853 to February 1855 with the deaths mostly from the Villiers district in the Parish or Township of Warrnambool. The deaths have been registered by John Martin Ardlie and the doctors’ signatures include those of Isaac Corney and Berkeley Hutchinson. This booklet is of high significance as many of the deaths recorded herein are not registered anywhere else and some were buried in the Warrnambool Cemetery before official records began. The Warrnambool Cemetery was gazetted in June 1854. The certificates were found in a private house in Warrnambool. This is a bound book with a black linen cover and containing 40 pages. The pages are designed to have the information written twice with one section called the Counterpart and the second called the Original Certificate of Death (Schedule B). The counterpart section was meant to be kept in the booklet and the second section was to be cut out and sent or put elsewhere. The first seven pages have the one Counterpart section and the rest are complete with the two sections. The pages are blue with printed headings for the Registrar of Deaths to fill in. The information on 12 of the pages are incomplete and the entries are handwritten in ink. Front cover: Original Certificate of Death, Bwarrnambool cemetery, early warrnambool death records 1853-1854, john martin ardlie, warrnambool history, isaac corney, berkeley hutchinson

This commemorative envelope was produced to mark the 125th anniversary of local government in Victoria, calculated from the establishment of the colony's municipal system in 1857. The envelope specifically commemorates local celebrations held in Broadmeadows on 27 November 1982. The item reflects civic identity and municipal pride during the City of Broadmeadows era and incorporates the municipal seal used by the municipality. The special cancellation references the Broadmeadows Leisure Centre, indicating its role in anniversary activities. This commemorative cover is historically significant for its association with the 125th anniversary of local government in Victoria and the City of Broadmeadows' participation in those celebrations. It provides evidence of civic commemoration, municipal identity, and the use of official symbols during the late twentieth century. The inclusion of a special Broadmeadows cancellation links the item directly to a local event, while the numbered limited edition enhances its documentary value. The cover contributes to understanding how local government milestones were publicly celebrated and represented within the municipality.Rectangular commercially produced paper envelope with gummed flap. The first European settlement of the area around Barnawartha was in 1836 when Joseph Slack established a pastoral run, primarily for sheep. At the time, Barnawartha was known as the crossing place where horse-drawn passenger coaches and mail run would cross the Indigo River. Although no major amounts of gold were found there, Barnawartha grew as a provider of food and services to the goldfields. The Barnawartha Post Office opened on August 1, 1860. Our Collection includes several photographs signed BONSEMA WODONGA or sometimes simply TBW. Thomas Peter John Bonsema was born in Wodonga in 1876 to Peter John Bonsema and Mary Ann nee Nash. His name first appears on the Electoral Roll for Wodonga in 1909 and on the Electoral Roll in 1912 he is listed as a photographer. His photographs capture many scenes and events around Wodonga and surrounding areas. Thomas Bonsema married Minna Louisa Jones in 1912. By 1914 he had moved to Chiltern, Victoria where he established Bonsema’s Photographic Studio. From this time onward many of his works bore the signature “BONSEMA CHILTERN”. As well as continuing to photograph landscapes and important buildings, Mr Bonsema was often the official photographer at school and community celebrations. He also sold many framed photographs and postcards from his premises at 68 -70 Conness Street, Chiltern. By 1943 Thomas John Bonsema had relocated to New South Wales and died in Beecroft, NSW on 14th July 1944. Some of his photographs are held in the Victorian State Library and Mitchell Library Sydney Collections. These images are significant because they are the work of a recognised photographer Thomas Bonsema who was born in Wodonga in 1876.
