This gold-plated prefect's badge is an excellent example of its era. It is interesting that the school does not list a prefect in 1972 with the name 'Pitcher'. There is no student with the surname Pitcher registered as attending the school in 1972. Gold-plated prefect's badge featuring oval school emblem (Minervan head surrounded by motto) and decorative edge. Engraved with 'Prefect' in black across top of badge and '1972' at bottom of badge. There is a single pin attached to the rear of the badge and the name 'Pitcher' is engraved on the pin base. Engraved around top of badge front: 'PREFECT'; and around base of front: '1972'. The 1958 edition of 'Quadrangle' was the first published as the new magazine of the Ballarat Junior Technical School. Formerly the Ballarat Junior Technical School occupied a few pages at the back of the Ballarat School of Mines Students' Magazine. In this year the Ballarat Junior Technical School's 'brother' school, Ballarat North Technical School, was publishing its own magazine called 'Green Acres'. The blazer pocket is an excellent example of the embroidered crest/motto for Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies' College in the 1930's. The House Prefect braid features school colours of the day with wide red, gold and navy blue bands interspersed with narrow white and gold stripes. School badge for Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies College 1921 - 1973, donated to the school by Michael Dunn. Michael's mother and aunt (unidentified) both attended CPLC in the 1930s. The badge worn worn as a tie-pin or fixed to the entre of the tunic bodice. It is possible the gold badge was for senior students or prefects only and the silver badge for other students. This badge belonged to Gwen Robinson of Orbost who was a student and prefect at Orbost Secondary College.This item is significant because it is a prefect badge from Orbost Secondary College, c.1960s/1970s.An oval-shaped metal badge, light blue colour with a dark blue strip of colour across the middle. This Reunion was held at York on Lilydale, Lilydale, Victoria on March 27 2010, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the school commencing in February 1960 in the newly-completed building as a co-educational campus. Prior to that it had operated on two separate, temporary campuses until the new school was ready: - at Ferntree Gully Technical School in 1958 for 100 Form 1 boys, then the following year in spare rooms at Lilydale State School for 200 Form 1 and 2 boys - at Box Hill Girls' Technical School in 1959 for 100 Form 1 girls The Reunion was organised by Joan Pickford, helped by several other past students. Joan worked exceptionally hard to organise the reunion and the materials displayed on the night. The beautiful RTS banner that we all walked past in the school's main corridor all those years ago, was there in all its glory - the only RTS relic that wasn't showing its age on the night. It was a great event and well-attended. The noise of people chatting and swapping stories was deafening. Some of the 1958-59 original students, and teachers from the1960s onwards were there. People brought along their photos and memorabilia. Some wore their ties and badges which still fitted after all those years. One former prefect wore his old blazer, which must have shrunk in the wardrobe but reminded many of us of those carefree times at school.. Best of all was the re-kindling of memories, and renewing and consolidation of friendships started at the school all those years ago.
