The Fashion & Design collection of the Kew Historical Society includes examples of women’s, men’s, children’s and infants’ clothing from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Items in the collection were largely produced for, or purchased by women in Melbourne, and includes examples of outerwear, protective wear, nightwear, underwear and costume accessories. This particular skirt, by one-time Kew resident Prie Acton, was sourced by Margaret Robinson. A-line suede leather midi-length skirt featuring "bull's eye" and zig-zag appliques at hemline. This dress was made for Frieda Ellen Hambrook, by a friend who lived at 'Overton' in Kew. Frieda, a teacher, wore the dress to a ball which took place, coincidentally, on 3 November 1939. Kew Historical Society has a large costume collection, including examples of formal wear, day wear, underwear, and protective clothing. As the Society has been located at the Kew Library since 1987, it uses display space within the library to mount small displays such as this display of aprons and pinafores. The Orbost Bowling Club was founded in 1929, by a group of farmers and businessmen. They set about providing a sporting icon for the town. Six rinks were constructed on the current site using horse drawn scoops and drags. The "Back to Orbost” 1937 book, describes the greens as "a bit rough for the first two seasons but now compare favourably with most country greens". The blank autograph book was gifted to Mavis Hucker Christmas 1929 and used by her throughout 1930 to collect signatures and homilies from her fellow students at Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies College. Entries feature poems, proverbs and hand-drawn artwork. Historic significance due to insight into work ethic amongst female students in the 1930's.
