This involves a perpetual trophy which the Society holds for one year. This pencil was used as an advertising medium for the Warrnambool firm of Archie Graham and Sons. It was given to customers of the firm. Archie Graham (1906-1992) commenced a building business in Warrnambool in the 1930s and was well-known for his many building projects in the city and his innovation in the industry. Archie Graham was a prominent member of the Uniting Church and a tireless worker in community affairs in Warrnambool for sixty years. He planned and organized the street decorations for the Warrnambool Centenary in 1947, was chairman of the committee that developed Albert Park and the Reid Oval and was active in Rotary Club and Cricket Club affairs. He was also a member of the Warrnambool Technical School Council. Today the building in Timor Street for senior citizens and other community use is named after Archie Graham. This pencil is of interest as a memento of the type of complimentary article given to customers of businesses in Warrnambool in the mid 20th century. It is also a memento of Archie Graham, an important businessman and community worker in Warrnambool in the 20th century. This is a large six-sided wooden pencil sharpened at one end. The pencil is painted green with a white band near the top and a black-colored end rounded at the top. The paint on the pencil is slightly chipped. The inside of the pencil contains graphite for writing or drawing. The A2 class was an express passenger locomotive that ran on Victorian Railways from 1907 to 1963. The 996 arrived at the Port of Echuca in 1968 from Newport and was donated to the City of Echuca by the Echuca Lions Club & the Rotary Club who had purchased it for 1250 pounds. the A2 996 is displayed at the Echuca Wharf Railway Siding.A2 996 is one of the later batch of sixty A2 class express passenger locomotives built with superheating and other design enhancements including Walschaerts valve gear. it was constructed at Newport Workshops in 1916 and was among the last few A2 class remaining in service when taken off register by the Victorian Railways in November 1963. Portland Post Office Clock. Case is apparently new.Large mantle clock made from dark wood. Front door has a large glass pane with roman numerals in gold affixed to interior of glass. This is a souvenir program made for the musical event, Hiawatha, presented by Orbost Rotary Club on November 28,29 1949. Miss Elsie Lambert was a teacher at Orbost State School for 25 year.This is representative of the entertainment popular in Orbost in the 1940's-1950's.Two small 12 pp cream coloured books with brown print and the head of an American Indian chief in head-dress on the cover. It is titled"Hiawatha" prod. and directed by F.C. Herbert. a musical event presented in Orbost 1949, performed and sponsored by the Orbost Rotary Club. The book and program were produced as part of the 50 year celebrations of Orbost Rotary Club. This is locally written history book which is a useful research tool.Two dark blue covered books with 124 pp. There is gold lettering on the front cover ; ROTARY CLUB OF ORBOST FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE 1947-1997 50th Anniversary Celebrations. In the top left corner is the Rotary International symbol. The book title has gold corner frames. Two yellow single page programs for the celebratory dinner held at Orbost Motel Lodge on 31/5/1997. This trophy was won by Robert Call in 1931 for his excellent marksmanship shooter at the Orbost Rifle Club. Mr Gall won a number of trophies and was a crack shooter. Robert Gall married Annie Miller and they had 5 children. Unfortunately, Annie died from complications of childbirth. Later, Robert (Bob) married Amy Richardson of Bonang and they both contributed to many groups in Orbost including Bowls, Rotary, CWA, Croquet, Rifle Club, Masons and Fire Brigade. Bob won a coveted KING's Junior competing against contestants from all over Australia. Bob also did farming. This item is significant because it represents an important era of Orbost history (1900 to 1980's) when rifle shooting was an important sport.Brass trophy in the shape of an urn. Item has a gold coloured painted band with raised decorations across the wider part of the urn. Top of urn is open and has two attached handles.O.R.C. The Upwelling Festival is a community celebration of the Bonney Upwelling. The Bonney Upwelling is a natural, environmental phenomenon which occurs each year where the spring winds shift to the south-east driving a change in ocean currents that power a seven month feeding frenzy of tuna, crayfish, giant crabs, squid, fish, sea birds, krill and blue whales. The Upwelling is at its greatest off the coast of Portland. The Festival features a parade, ocean and science talks, live music and artThe Upwelling Festival is an annual event in Portland which celebrates the unique environmental phenomenon happening off the coast of Portland. It is a community event of great significance.16 page booklet detailing the events of the 2016 Upwelling Festival. The booklet is printed in colour on thin paper.
