Significance

the significance of this photograph is that it shows what an office environment was like during the mid 1900s. the style of dress of a business man is evident as are the hair styles. The form of communication is noted by the presence of the telephone.The amount of paper, books, ledgers needed
to run an office is also evident.

Physical description

A rectangular, black and white photograph printed on matte paper. The picture depicts two men in a room that looks to be an office. The man in the foreground is seated at a desk, which is at the front of the photograph.
This man has a full head of dark hair and a full moustache. He is dressed in a dark suit with a light coloured shirt and a dark tie. His right arm is resting on the desk and he is holding a pen in his hand. The second man is standing directly behind the seated man with his right hand on the back of the chair. This man has a full head of hair, a full moustache and full beard. He is smiling broadly. He is dressed in a light coloured suit and a light coloured tie.
On the desk, directly in front of the seated man is a large blotter with a large notepad on top of it. In front of the blotter there is a rectangular pen holder with a small note pad attached. To the right of the blotter is an open notebook and to the left there is a telephone with a receiver connected to the base by a coiled cable. There are square press button letter and number keys on the base.
Behind the men is an open cabinet with four shelves containing books, files and ledgers. On the wall next to the standing man there are three notices pinned to the wall.
