It was demolished in the 1970s to make way for a modern retail complex. A photo of the Ruperstwood Hotel, on the corner of Evans Street and Brook Street, with a group of people and a horse and carriage outside it. The group is comprised of 5 men, 1 youth, 5 girls and a woman in the carriage. There is a sign on the fence stating " Horses and buggies always for hire. Good stabling" and on the building "Superior Wines and Spirits"; "Rupertswood Hotel" and "G. Millett. Licensed Victualler"The photo is mounted on a light brown cardboard matt, which is extremely brittle. The lower LH corner is cracked. The two storey bluestone building was the Rupertswood Hotel, which was on the NE corner of the intersection and the single storey Royal Hotel building in the foreground was on the opposite corner. The Millett family originally owned both hotels. The Rupertswood Hotel was demolished in December 1974 to make way for a modern retail store. The street parade where many community organisations participated was popular with the townspeople. This book which was printed in 1984 gives not only the geology of the area but also the history of the various areas that Jacksons Creek and the Saltwater River now known as the Maribyrnong River pass through. There are many drawings and photos accompanying the information relating to the various areas and buildings researched in this book. Those mentioned were his need to travel to the hospital in Melbourne fot medical treatment, billiard contests at the local hotel, theatre shows in the town as well as weather details.The message on the reverse side of the card gives an insight into the day to day happenings in Sunbury in 1912.A sepia post card with four photographs of sites in Sunbury, namely the Mill Fall, Rupertswood mansion, Dr. Faulkner's residence and the race track at Kismet. Royal ...The two storey building is the Royal Hotel which is sited on the corner of Brook and Evans Streets in Sunbury's main shopping strip.The photograph was taken sometime in 1939 after it was totally rebuilt. A fire had damaged the old single storey structure, which was built on the same site c1860 shortly after Sunbury had a rail service. The building still operates today on the same site.The Royal Hotel is one of four hotels that were built in Evans Street Sunbury between Brook and Station Streets ion the 1860s shortly after the rail service arrived in the town. They were They were the Railway Hotel (Olive Tree), White Horse Hotel, Royal Hotel and the Rupertswood Hotel, opposite the Royal Hotel.
