Book has abbreviated title and authors surname printed on spine in white ink on pale blue background. This pale blue binding extends for 55mm on front and back covers. Dust jacket has similar images on pale blue background on spine and extending 55mm on front and back, remainder of back is pale blue. One project was training sessions for group members on undertaking oral history recordings, which occurred in November 2023. The other project involved a professional historian recording two selected history group members, which occurred in March 2024. The interviews were undertaken by Katherine Sheedy of Way Back When Consulting Historians. Doug Orford, whose family first came to Eltham in about 1853, was born in Eltham in August 1929. Doug recalled his family’s connection to the area, starting with his grandfather in 1853, getting to school, growing up on an 18-acre block, working on the orchard, his father’s horse and cart, shops, deliveries, the war and rationing, Black Friday bushfires in 1939, and a little bit about establishing the Shire of Eltham Historical Society, later Eltham District Historical Society, of which he was a life member. The interviews were undertaken by Katherine Sheedy of Way Back When Consulting Historians. Russell Yeoman, a life member of the Eltham District Historical Society, first came to Eltham in 1964 when he was employed in Engineering and later as a Town Planner with the former Shire of Eltham. Following Council amalgamation and the establishment of the new Shire of Nillumbik (December 1994), Russell carried over to Nillumbik for a brief period. Russell was a founding member of the Shire of Eltham Historical Society in 1967 which following Council amalgamation was renamed the Eltham District Historical Society. Russell is the Society Secretary and has held that volunteer position for more than 55 years. Russell discussed his arrival in Eltham in the 1960s, working as an engineering and then town planner for the shire, changes in Eltham over time including from a town planning perspective, the unique character of Eltham and challenges this led to, the book Pioneers & Painters, forming the Shire of Eltham Historical Society, the Local History Centre, and what is unique about Eltham.audio recording, eltham, eltham district historical society, oral history, russell yeoman -

There are also a number of household recipes and hints from " Women's Sphere" and the "Australian Journal" in the time period of 1906 to 1935. There are also cuttings from the " Australian Dairy Farmer" from 1940. There are also a number of handwritten recipes for baking and medicinal purposes. It was collected by a member of the Bonnett family , who farmed at Mepunga over a number of years. The Historical Society has another exercise book of cuttings from the local paper which printed letters from the front by soldiers from WW1.This is an interesting collection of items which sparked the interest of a farming family in early 20th century.White two ring bantex folder of 37 plastic sleeves containing white A4 pages with newspaper cuttings.
