Commissioned by her grieving husband, Dr. John Springthorpe, it became a collaboration between Betram Mackennal, William Guilfoyle, and Harold Desbrowe-Annear. The stone structure is well noted for its marble statues depicting the deceased with an angel, and the impressive architecture that surrounds it. First unveiled in 1901, it became a heritage building in 1982 and has undergone conservation and repair works.
