The Sunbury Memorial Hall was originally the Mechanic's Institute which was built on the present site in 1885. The hall was remodelled in 1922 and renamed the Sunbury Memorial Hall. The building was used until the 1960s as the meeting place by the Shire of Bulla Council. The people were attending the annual Fireman's Ball in the Sunbury Memorial Hall in 1936. The Sunbury Memorial Hall was originally the Sunbury Mechanics Institute, until after World War 1. Over the years it has been the site for many different functions from social to local government meetings. The parkland in the foreground was Stawell Street, which was closed off to become included in the Village Green passive recreation area in 1979. St. Mary's Anglican Church is in the middle distance.Many social gatherings have taken place in both the hall and the Village Green over the years and is used constantly today. The twenty five debutantes made their debut in Sunbury at the Memorial Hall late c1950s or early 1960s. Mrs Aitken trained the girls for the event.Debutante Balls were a popular annual event in the local Sunbury community and were well attended. The move to build the Mechanics Institute was started in 1883 and the foundation stone was laid by Lady Janet Clarke in 1885. The Sunbury Gun was originally donated to the Shire of Bulla by the Clarke family. For many years it stood at the intersection of Barkly, Stawell and Macedon Streets. Over the years it became very dilapidated and as traffic along Macedon Street gradually increased it was decided to refresh and relocate it to a triangular site opposite the Memorial Hall in 1970. Chris. Christiansen was the photographer in Sunbury from 1892 to 1916. St. Andrew's Church in Sunbury have organised an annual flower show for many years and it is held in the Sunbury Memorial Hall.A black and white photo of a flower show mounted on a cream frame. The champagne glass was used to commemorate the opening of the new Shire of Bulla Council Offices in 1966. The crowd are gathered around the former Rupertswood gun which originally was a piece of field equipment used by the Rupertswood Battery. The Clarke family eventually gave it the the residents of Sunbury. The booklet was produced to acknowledge the 20th Anniversary or the Sunbury Rotary Club in 1973. It is a souvenir program and features a brief history of the club from 1973 to 1993 along with members and photographs as well as sponsors details. The celebration took place in the Sunbury Memorial Hall on 17th April 1993A 56 page booklet with a white cardboard cover that is stapled together. The publication has been produced by the Rotary Club of Sunbury. The printing on the cover is red and blue and there is a sketch of Emu Bottom homestead dec orating the front cover.
